we all miss our youth, i am sure he does as well, amazing how time flies when we are having fun or simply going about things If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

It's not just about youth, i was about 10 or 11 yrs old when he was on top of his A game in the 80's. i miss his attitude and his creativity.

yeah, sorta. but like everyone else, he had to grow up and it wouldn't make sense for him to be prancing around doing, saying, wearing the same stuff like back in the day. he'd look ridiculous. modern day prince is still pretty much the same prince. just toned WAY down. he still offers up the funk and rock and everything else. maybe it isn't as raw or as good (as the 80s stuff), but i don't think you should expect any artist to have that long of a run. the 8 or 9 years (approv. 80'-88') was awesome enough and enough to cement his place in history. everything after has been hit and miss sometimes but it's all been pretty much okay. he's kept a decent stream of good music out over the years which is more than one can say for so many other once-great artists. people dog his new music only because they know he HAS done much better. i doubt that he has another sign o the times or purple rain in his grasp. he's still the man, only because times have changed, he has changed and everything is about timing.
his newer music is enjoyable and i listen to it every now and then and will no doubt buy anything new he comes with. the great thing about him is that there is so much of his music to enjoy. not to condone bootlegs or anything but if you're feeling nostalgic seek some of them out (if you haven't already). my only beef with him now is him changing the lyrics to his songs and stuff. i understand he doesn't want to curse anymore and that's cool. just DON'T CURSE or don't play those kinda songs. you don't have to make up dumb stuff like: i heard him playing peach one time and he changed one line to "she reads the bible all day long" or something like that. like you know damn well that wasn't the kinda girl you had in mind with that song or "four letter will not be heard up on this stage tonight" on joy in repetition which just sounds corny and unnecessary to me. i wish he wasn't uptight about that stuff so maybe he would put some of his back catalog out. but whatever, anything new is cool and prince will always be with me. sorry, such a long post. i had alot to say tonight, i guess. For all time I am with you, you are with me.

These dayz he has toned it down abit, but he is still as insane as ever, just look up the setlist to his last concert at the O2 to see that. P may lose alot of things during his life, like we all do, but his ability to leave us stratching our heads is always there If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

Yeah. You are right but we all have to grow up. I enjoy his music in the 80's but miss out quite alot from 93 or 94 till recently, but when I find his music again, I just learn to appreciate a different style of music by him, which I will not appreciate if I was 10 or 20 years younger. I think we have got the best of both worlds, as we can always go back on his older work to remind us all the fun we had in our youth but also have his recent work to enjoy as a more grown up crowd.

I accept that all things cannot remain the same; people evolve. I still find Prince as exciting as ever. When ever he's about to release something new, I am excited as I was when I was 14-15 yrs old. As for his spirituality, I cannot judge him, the same way we would not want to be judged. I also accept that this realm of his life will change the types of messages he puts out.

Or to put it another way, do we want new P fans to arrive here and find a bunch of clowns argueing over stuff that is totally irrelevant of his music, i dont think so. naturally we show our humour, but we should also show what we really think, if ya know what i mean I doubt any other artist has the type of lunatic following as P has, which has become a community amongst itself, opps i am sounding like a Fam, nnnnnooooo Peace If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

Absolutely. I'd rather know less about what a prick he is. Or at least have the only source for that information be in the tabloids so it's questionable & not from the mainstream media today, where it's more often than not sad but true to hear.
Oh & he was much more musically inventive 20 years ago than he is today. Much more. Of course, people misinterpret this thread to blather on about how we all miss our youth. No, we miss the talent & inspiration that vacated the scene when Prince shot his creative wad.

Badly. Even though I wasn't technically around then, the whole atmosphere and energy and EDGE was incredible.
He didn't mind making people mad whether it was Rick James or Tipper Gore - he just did what he did and didn't care. Now he's like someone walking through snow and making sure each and every footprint is gone. He, of course, hasn't lost any talent whatsoever, but excitement-wise, that Prince died long ago.

I missed the 80s Prince in the mid 80s while the 80s were still happening. 80s Prince died after "Purple Rain" and the mid and late 80s was mostly 60s and 70s Prince. Andy is a four letter word.

Honestly, No I don't miss 80's Prince cause Prince is still alive and he's still kicking my ass but I miss certain things from that time. I miss the change in hairstyles and wardrobes and that he was in the media much more than now but those are superficial things. He's still a phenominal musician and I enjoy most of the CD's that have come out since 89. In fact, I think it's a blessing that I'm not one of the fans who think his last great album was Lovesexy or even Purple Rain. How he conduct his life and his music is his business, I'm just here to enjoy the ride however it comes. It's less stressful that way. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
