Cool guitar. I'd gladly play it! But I agree that Prince might have seen it as a kind of endorsement of a guitar that he didn't ask for or even want possibly.

A gift is one thing, but trying to get publicity through a gift is the kind of gift that can be refused.

Imagine Prince does take the guitar, and even uses it on stage.

A year from now the designer, the maker, and Gosh-Knows-Who-Else get into a merchandising war over the rights and Prince is dragged into it just for having used an unsolicited guitar.

It's like how some publishing companies will return unsolicited material sight unseen. Because if five years from now, they publish something that even remotely resembles the property, they could get sued.

These days the use of the whammy takes over almost all of his solos. The guitars go through so many effects, that it doesn't matter too much, anymore. There's a joke going around about his guitar tech, that he had heard a guitar sound once at a recording, and asked how they reached that amazing sound, and they answered "we just plugged the guitar straight to the amp".

The case dragged on for a while but Prince eventually won. Based on that experience alone, he should probably stay as far away from "gift" instruments as possible.
