No accepting gifts or sumthin..? confused
regardless its interesting looking..not something i would play..but Interesting for sure..

I was thinking the same thing. JW cannot accept gifts from my understanding. Have to respect his reasons & religion & I'm sure he was very gracious when declining.

Er, not quite. They can accept gifts, just not in the spirit of celebrating birthdays or holidays. If you were going to give a Witness a pressie just for the hell of it, they wouldn't turn it down.

This is actually wrong. he admitted that he compromised about his sound so he could play the guitars with the special designs (cloud guitar and symbol guitar).

But I find this guitar design unique, yet too futuristic for his taste.

What an arrogant bitch is this Prince guy. He could have accepted the gift and if he didn't like it he could gave it away to some poor kid or whatever.
Maybe he was afraid for a bomb inside the guitar. He can be such a sissy sometimes.

But in Prince's world, it's not just a gift is it? It's a prop for the company to use as advertising "As played by Prince" etc. If they'd have got him to accept it, it would have been a major marketing coup on the cheap. Nice try, but our man's too smart to fall for that.

Cool guitar. I'd gladly play it! But I agree that Prince might have seen it as a kind of endorsement of a guitar that he didn't ask for or even want possibly.

A gift is one thing, but trying to get publicity through a gift is the kind of gift that can be refused.

EXACTLY.

Imagine Prince does take the guitar, and even uses it on stage.

A year from now the designer, the maker, and Gosh-Knows-Who-Else get into a merchandising war over the rights and Prince is dragged into it just for having used an unsolicited guitar.

It's like how some publishing companies will return unsolicited material sight unseen. Because if five years from now, they publish something that even remotely resembles the property, they could get sued.

Even then though, the cloud and symbol used the EMG combo that he likes. And if you know anything about guitars, the sound that he gets with the EMGs and the sound that he would get out of the lipstick pickups in that thing are on completely different spectrums. The only thing that he could really use it for would be clean sounds, in which case he already has the Tele and the Benson sig. Sound wise, this guitar would be a no-no for Prince.

Well, that might be right, but then again, Prince has changed his sound more than one. In the late 90s, his guitar solos had a more cabinet sound to them. These days the use of the whammy takes over almost all of his solos. The guitars go through so many effects, that it doesn't matter too much, anymore. There's a joke going around about his guitar tech, that he had heard a guitar sound once at a recording, and asked how they reached that amazing sound, and they answered "we just plugged the guitar straight to the amp".

Too bad. Looks "interesting." However, it's understandable, because the next thing would be his being photographed with the guitar & its maker using that as some sort of endorsement. Then Prince would sue & there'd be even less time from the studio & the slim chance he'd be in there making listenable music.

Maybe it's a security issue. Accepting anyone's 'gifts' could possibly expose the receipient to all types of unwanted or potential hazardous materials or ingredients. twocents

Amonst other things. I know someone who accepted a gift. Months later it turned out that the gift was bugged and months of private conversations had been over heard. Some of that private stuff leaked out 2 the press.

IF P isn't going to accept a tape that had a certain fan's song on it, you know he's not going to accept a guitar.

Especially one with the name "Gus" on the head and with those volume/tone knobs... disbelief

On the subject of the pickups..There were no specs presented for this guitar at the onset of the thread. Just because they appear to be lipstick style pickups cosmetically doesn't mean they are in terms of tone or function. Heck we don't even know what material the dern guitar is constructed of. How bout' some specs...please?

There was a case like that called Pickett v. Prince back in the 90's. Some dude said he offered Prince a symbol guitar, which Prince declined, way before Prince ever used that design in concert.

http://www.coolcopyright....cetext.htm

The case dragged on for a while but Prince eventually won. Based on that experience alone, he should probably stay as far away from "gift" instruments as possible.

I hear he likes sand dollars though...
"What kind of fuck ending is that?"
