Yes, Keep her away from the corporate machines.

She is impressive. I've checked her out. They are comparing her to Alicia Keys.

all parents need to really consider the entertainment world and 'stay' with their kids in the process.. it's not all glitter out there.. too many vultures out for money and too much danger

Nice. Talented kid. I hope she goes far, and stays far, far away from the machine. Maybe if she's steered towards a more independent scene it'll work out.

I watched one of the clips of her on Youtube. I think it was from the Today Show. Listening to how those women were talking to her made me puke. Heavy use of the high-pitched tones and sing-songy voices. And they keep cutting her off to tell her how cute she was when she was speaking. She's 10, not retarded. disbelief

What is wrong with so many adults -especially women -that they refuse to speak to children with respect?

It's a fascinating age that we live in, isn't it?

Hopefully this kid mostly stays off the "freak" circuit where she's currently acting more mature in some ways than the hosts. So many out there, including sometimes parents, see things more often in terms of untapped dollars rather than untapped childhood.

She has a unique talent that's probably world class at 10, but that surely doesn't mean she'll be world class at 20, 30, 40 or 50. Can she do more than mimic and show a natural talent for musical instruments? Who knows? Let her develop, let her find out who she is, let her play with dolls.

Often times this is little more than precociousness. She's good for her age, but if she doesn't keep developing at an incredible rate, this is not much. She's not great for someone 20 who is passionate about music, for example.

And ultimately songwriting is where it's at. So you either find great songs or you develop naturally into someone that should to be heard.

Just imagine if Prince had been paraded around as a child, he may have never developed into the gigantic musical talent we see today.

And, besides, those that possess the most potential, are often those that are so deeply talented that you'd never be able to recognize/categorize it so easily, so quickly.

Prince was a very poor performer in his youth, but he eventually became one of the greatest who ever lived. Who saw that monumental performance potential when he was shaking and mumbling into the microphone?

I don't know, but she did mention that she wanted to be a songwriter. Hopefully that's something she truly wants for herself and works at endlessly.

I'm sure she's not writing anything currently that needs to be heard outside of her family and remarks of "Isn't that great for someone 10"?

But if she is passionate about it and has songwriting ability, watch out!

But talent alone is nothing more than parlor tricks; especially when you're young and people still care.

Sadly, that's the first thing I asked myself when I read the title of this post.

Actually my 7 year old nephew plays the piano and the violin. He goes to a music academy after school, where there are dozens of 7 year olds who play the piano and the violin, I assume, some better than others. Incidentally, I think there are hundreds, thousands of 7 year old kids around the world who play an instrument.

This Gabi Wilson may indeed play her piano better than other kids. But I believe this is mostly about promotion. Whoever is behind getting her on the Today show - her parents, friends, family, connections - they are talented.

Much of this starts with language: just watch the kind of words that are being used to describe her: 'prodigy', 'amazing talent',... whenever I hear such words about someone new/unkown/breaking onto the scene, I get suspicious.
Then these words are being passed/repeated from mouth to mouth, the theme of her being so great multiplies,... just watch it unfold.

probably millions, alone in africa. for example, in ireland, we had nothing better to do, sit around the fire, bored mindless, listen to some wild story of Jim and the maiden and the problems of the church, famine, and Micks horse has gout. in those dayz we turned to music, beating spoons off milk cartons, or metal dustbins if we had one. tabloid newspapers were not allowed, as there were bare breasts to be seen, which corrupt the mind of innocent catholics. none of it made any sense, B&W televisions etc

but one day came a message, a folk unknown to mankind appeared, these folk we called, Were the F are we, for the simple reason, they did not know where the F they were, enlightened us to the ways of .....rhubarb

finally a light was seen, and rhubarb became an adventure into culinary delights, especially in the form of tarts.

I think you're completely wrong. You said,"And, besides, those that possess the most potential, are often those that are so deeply talented that you'd never be able to recognize/categorize it so easily, so quickly."
How old do you think Michael Jackson was when he started? What if Papa Joe just ignored him and his brothers?

Stevie Wonder was 12 when he did his first record too.Is he not THE greatest R&B songwriter of all time?

I think this little girl would be great whether she was on TV or not.You can't pretend to be talented sitting down at a piano and singing in front of millions of people.
