Prince Top Aged Artist? Most artists don't even last a year. Some go1 decade, some go all the way to 2.
20 years is about the longest an artist stays hot and is popular among young people. Then a new generation comes and they become the idols of the decade's teens. James Brown,Elvis were at their height from the lat 50s, to te 60s, to the Late 70s. Then Michael and Prince came along and rocked from the late 70s to the Late 90s. Now it's a new century and Prince and Michael's 20 year reign is over. Now they're in the category with classic and aged artists. Now eligible for lifetime achievment awards and The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. SO for all of the artists that went over their 20 year time I saythe ones from the 80s are possibly the hottest. So who do you say stayed the hottest after the hear tof their reign? Prince, Michael, Madonna, Janet,Prince, ELcis, The Beattles, The Rolling Stones? Working up a purple sweat.

If we're talking about 'hot and popular' in terms of having a world-wide commercial and cultural influence, then you can count Prince out of the equasion. He was only 'hot and popular' from about 1982-1994. The name change completely sent him off the radar for a while in the late 1990s. It's only been the last few years that he's slowly regaining respect from the mainstream. Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

i like the way fluid suggested prince twice! & toejam summed up nicely. respeck 2 all these acts! now & again they pop their heads up, but then just 2 remind us of their old glory. it's nice 2 c celine dion, kylie, u2, red hot chillis still hott & rocking! (i wish paul weller would get his ass 2 my area) i always thought madonna had a great career, but really can't (& don't want) 2 c her doing anything else, tho i think she'd like 2. it's just not dignified! a lot of 'old timers' still doing their thang, but have hardcore fans. u either love them or hate them. i would have said the same about prince a few months ago.. but i have total faith in this guy. don't know what the future holds, but the summer of concerts was more than an eye opener! after witnessing his energy, i know he's capable of doing anything he wants. age cannot stop this man. this isn't wishful thinking. i would love 2 c him try something tht the young generation is in2, just 2 raise his profile with the kids. get back on radio maybe remix old stuff * dj-ing * collaborations with exceptional talent. 4 his expertise & future music 2 b fully admired, he must consider ways 2 better promote himself. there must b some really exciting innovative ways of doing so... i just hope he hurries up & discovers the 'truth', then he can get back 2 business!

If we're going to include actors into the thread then ya might as well throw in a pic of ol' Jack Nickolson as well.
BTW Sosgemini, that is one bad ass woman, how old is Sophia now anyways? [Edited 12/23/07 7:51am]

Well I remember James Brown in the 80s and he wasn't nearly as popular amongst young people like Prince and Michael Jackson. I remember one year he was stuck with doing a small theater at The George R. Brown Convention Center here in Houston. If Prince goes to that altough he does and can't do 20,000 seat arenas it means his act has gotten really bad or really old. Working up a purple sweat.
