What does everyone think of what Prince did(kevin smith related)?

When Prince pulled his bible out and said 'all that don't believe over there, you have no rules and we are taking your women'

I find this disgusting.

Prince is so self righteous. He thinks he knows everything and if you don't agree you are banished

women ARE NOT OBJECTS and nobody owns them
Let's see the fanatics defend this

He can be extreme, damn. I'd be in a knock down-drag out argument with this dude if we tried to talk religion. I am so opposite of him. I think all religions lead to a general truth and I am really laid back. I wonder if he has ever studied any other religions or divisions of Christianity other than JW?

By the way,
What was the context of this statement?

yeah.. i dont know what he's quoting from, but still.. it's taken out of context and doesnt apply to today .. that's Old Testament .. there are certain stories in OT where women were taken..(during battles) .. dunno what he's referring to anyway ..

Don't get me wrong, I love Kevin Smith - I think he's one of the funniest cats going around, and his skits on Prince are just priceless.

However I always take everything he says with a grain of salt (not just the Prince stories, but all of his celebrity stories). It's pretty obvious if you watch the whole DVD that his stories are exaggerated for the purpose of getting a laugh. Based on fact no doubt, but highly embellished.

To then come out and say 'Prince is a jerk' based on someone else's interpretation of events is just plain silly. Prince has always hired highly skilled and intelligent women in his band, and his music has always shown a deep respect for them. He doesn't consider them 'objects'.

Kevin Smith, the director of cult movies such as Dögma, Jay & Silent Bob Stike Back, Chasing Amy, Mallrats, Clerks & Clerks II etc., was hired by Prince in 2001 to film a documentary based on the listening sessions at Paisley Park of his then new album, The Rainbow Children. They basically had a falling out and Kevin tells his side of the story on his DVD An Evening With Kevin Smith. He goes on to ridicule Prince based on his brief encounter (all in good humour though - it's a great laugh lol).

I can't find the original on youtube that we''re discussing, but here's a follow up video about the reaction he got from Prince: http://www.youtube.com/wa...uzstJ91NZU

Of course P does and says things that are fu**ed up, people that have known his music or followed his career know that this comes with being a fan. So to answer your question directly, yes it's totally messed up, period! No defense to it. In fact it's highly offensive and I am a man. But on an aside it's not surprising for him to say such ridiculous things and I don't imagine that Kevin Smith embesslished that much I can see it happening just like he described it. But I will always say I am into the Music not the antics. The music is to be appreciated, personally the man has issues dealing with humans.

I am being real. I'm not a fanatic 'defending his actions' or anything, I am merely basing my opinion on what I have witnessed throughout his career - not on someone else's interpretation of a one-off event (especially someone like Kevin Smith who is well known for stretching the truth for the sake of a good story). Sure, he may well have said it, but you and I weren't there at the time and we really don't have any context in which to make an informed opinion on it. How many women who have worked with Prince have since come out and labelled him a 'sexist' or a 'chauvanistic pig' or whatever? Not many to my knowledge.

LOL I was waiting for someone to bring Rosie up... fair enough on that count. Personally I think Nona and Sinead are both whack jobs but that's another thread lol! Anyway, I'm really trying my best not to sound like a Prince ass-kisser, as there are many facets (his religion in particular) that I don't agree with. But I still stand by my original post in regards to the comment by Kevin Smith. Take it with a grain of salt!

You weren't there at the time for this either, but I'd imagine you're among those singing along when Prince sings that piece of crap revisionist history of a song called "Avalanche."

When a fanatic says something is "not to my knowledge," it probably isn't saying much.
