CONTROVERSY. Discuss Let's discuss this album (again).
What do you think of it, what do the songs mean to you, does it still represent the Prince of today? And so on... People call me rude, I wish we were all nude I wish there was no black and white, I wish there were no rules

prob my least favourite album. i can only listen to 3 songs, but they're quality!
controversy! do me baby! sexuality! i know he sang controversy on 21st sept, o2 so he's obviously still in touch with that vibe... how old was prince when these songs were made? i suppose he was singing/writing about what was important 2 him at tht time - SEX. he's a very sexual person, so i guess this album is still representative of his nature. | |

a solid album, but it's still a disappointing follow-up to his monumental 1980 landmark, Dirty Mind, to me! But it does have outstanding tracks like the title track, Do Me Baby, Annie Christian, and Sexuality... Check me out and add me on:

That's back when Prince was at his best. Classic pre-ATWIAD "Old Prince". No artsy/fartsy shit, just straight out hardcore jams. "Controversy" was the perfect follow up to "Dirty Mind" and the perfect album for "1999" to follow. Prince just kept getting hotter and hotter each year back in those years.

I like the 'Controversy' album, the title track is funky, and even though I don't like all of the songs, I think it's a solid album. I love the first 20 seconds or so on 'Sexuality' lol, I just can't help laughing, but I still like the song once it gets going. I think it gets overshadowed by some of his works to come, and it came out in '81 when Street Songs was so huge, it seems like it just got drowned out. But I still like the album though. Lady Cab Driver is one of the greatest songs ever! | |

[Edited 12/22/07 12:58pm] i remember the first time i heard this album, i thought "annie christian" was some pretty avant-garde/new-wave/"out there" sounding shit. in fact, i think this (and ARGUABLY 'dirty mind') could be considered his most "alternative" or "culty" albums, especially after the more straightforward stuff on the two records previous to Controversy and Dirty Mind. Plus he was working out his whole image concept around the time of Controversy, which I consider pretty artsy fartsy compared to, like, you know...Bob Seger or something. | |

I love Controversy. It's in my top 5 Prince albums list. I dig most of the songs from the ablum. You know the album is a classic when Prince still to this day plays the songs from the album. Like Controversy and Do, Me Baby.  Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U. | |
