I like thieves in the temple to a small degree, but the video I have a problem with.

It was OK live on the D&P tour.

The extended version makes it 100 times better than the album version IMO.

Yes very! I am constantly surprised by Prince's ability to articulate eloquently so many of life's challenges. batting eyes

And to do so at such a young age....is just genius. I don't know....but then that's why we love his music so.

"Thieves In The Temple" will always be a special Prince song for me.

Why?

First - back then I used to wait with baited breath for new Prince music. When I heard the title of this first single from Graffiti Bridge I thought it was incredibly strange. I knew this was a good sign. Prince growing once more.

At that time - early summer of 1990 - I had just gotten dumped by my year-long girlfriend and I was absolutely devistated. I was 20 years old.

New Prince music to the rescue! As if he knew exactly how I felt, "Thieves" desperate, angry lyrics spoke for me..."You said you loved me! You were supposed to take care of me!" and "They don't care where they kick, just as long as they hurt you..." It was cathartic to say the least.

"Thieves" helped me get through that breakup. And Graffiti Bridge then came out and was my "Spiritual Rebirth" album.

I'll always look upon that album with feelings of magic, gratitute and spirituality in my heart and soul.

The acoustic version gives me chills. The anguished falsetto vocals sound like they were recorded in the toilets at Paisley (kevin smith style)
