I'm Bored By It All... I generally check her at least once a day and peruse the topics. And I have come to the realization that most thing currently Prince...bore me.
What he's up to, what his "craziness" is responsible for now, any hint of new music or direction, just doesn't thrill me anymore. I guess because the answer to those questions have been wholly pedestrian for awhile now. You may or may not like his last 3 CD's. I like them fine. But, did any of them actually excite you? I used to almost evangelize his new CD's to all my friends. They may not be into Prince. But they certainly knew when there was a new CD and what it sounded like cause it would be in my hand waiting to play it for them at the drop of a hat. But since Musicology....meh. Again, the CD's were fine to listen to, But it didn't stir anything. And everything you can point to on those CD's that was good, I can point to him having done in another form over the last 20 yrs. Screw chart success. it's ruined everything. His whole direction shifted with the praise he got after the Grammy opening with Beyonce. The last thing he's done that made me really interested in wanting to know what the next track sounds like was Rainbow Children. has anything on the last 3 CD's surprised you? Put it to you this way. If any of the last few CD's had been your first Prince CD, what kind of fan would you be? The kind that checks a fan site daily to find out what he puts in his coffee? I think not. You would be somebody that goes, a few weeks after it's out "Oh look, a New Prince CD, I should check that out" I don't hate him or diss him or anything like that. And I'll still get whatever he puts out. But I used to be at the stores at midnight on release day. Now, I can wait till I get to the store next. Or get it off iTunes. I just find him...boring. And after the journey I've been on with him over 20 yrs. That makes me sad.

yes planet earth suprised me as i kept looking 4ward 2 the next track 2 get me out of my seat and say "that motherfucker has done it again" but it didn't it just left me with the feeling of
now 3121 got me out of my seat and dancing. what would shock u anymore would b if he did a album of country/bluegrass then? with any music 2day, there IS NO MORE SHOCK value other than a decent rapper having something 2 say that's worth noticing. or perhaps having someone come on the scene that can really sing would b shocking. maybe u should just take a break and xplore other sounds and give the mpls sound a rest. remember this site it's not just about prince's music man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Hello,
I go thru periods of bordem too. I do find the org does help me keep in touch with Prince news, even when I am not into the music. I get burned out on Prince and then try other music. Maybe you just need a break. It is a stressful time of year. I myself am trying to get some X-mas stuff done and I cannot get into it this year. I find I go back to listen to the old stuff more and more. Maybe I am just feeling my age .

Life has gone on and it's likely your values and needs have changed over the last 20 years....including the things that truly move you to excitement. Although you may enjoy the new CD's and your a true music lover it could be that for you it's not something to jump for joy over anymore! Ask yourself this though.....how would you feel if you were sitting or standing front row centre at one of his shows? I know that when I'm fortunate enough to be in this position I still become overwhelmed with excitement....get caught up in the fun and it takes me quite a while to come down from that purple cloud! He gets it! That's why the ladies love him...

Put it to you this way. If any of the last few CD's had been your first Prince CD, what kind of fan would you be? In that case, I wouldn't even be a fan at all. When I first got into Prince back in 1979, there were tons of other artists throwing down and Prince's present albums would sound weak compared to the other artists of that era's stuff. I wouldn't have bought another Prince album because there would be tons of great albums to buy from other artists. However, considering that it's the 2000s and most of the other artists are making weak slow stuff like shit hop, Prince's present albums sound like "1999" in comparison to their stuff. Prince has become like Clear Channel nowadays because he controls the monopoly on funk. No one else is making funk these days so you either buy his new funk or don't get any new funk at all from anyone. See, if folks would wise up and not buy music from any artist that doesn't make funk, the other artists would start making funk and Prince would have some competition to keep him on his toes. He would start making better music and mainstream music by other artists would be better as a whole. Andy is a four letter word.

I appreciate your concern. But don't misinterpret Prince's importance to me. He is my favorite musician, that is true, but that category has a logical place in my life. I check the website when I need a quick break from work. I just noticed that the level of anticipation when I do has markedly changed. It's more a reflexive habit in my surfing cycle and I self-analyzed why and posted as a sort of group therapy. The last thing I've done that interested myself? Well,I did the under painting for a picture I'm working on last night. And the day before that I tried a couple of new recipes in anticipation of Christmas cooking. At work I designed a new logo for a division of the company I work for and so on etc. So I'm cool with myself and am not bothered really by this, except in comparison to the nostalgia of past feelings and experiences. Loving Prince is kind of like marriage...u run to the alter...accept the vow...and continue living every day with the pleasure of identifying with a feeling you enjoy...even if it rains, and u feel sad...You still love that Prince music is there 2 bring a smile 2 your day. I honestly believe that my personal life wouldn't be as colorful if I couldn't listen to Prince's voice on a happy day or a sad day...He's always been there, and I do thank God 4 that. Have a Prince-break. I've had several in the last 25 years as an admirer. Very few things are able to sustain constant intense admiration, I'm feeling much the same as you so I'll be checking out for awhile but I'll keep an eye open for his tour plans. His music has always drawn me back so I've no doubt it will again.

THERE you go! You're gonna be just fine. As many have suggested, give Prince and The Org a rest for a moment, focus on YOUR art, and when you come back from a fresh perspective, Prince and The Org will be interesting again. Feel better.

i was there near the beginning & thought prince was cool...i'm catching up yrs later & have found pretty much everything a joy 2 hear.
imo, the last 3 albums have been very sophisticated. prince has got nothing 2 prove these days. he is comfortable knowing tht what he puts out is class. i adore risque prince! DMSR! but let's face it, these days he is acting his age. this will reflect in his music, but frankly i don't think it's a negative. i can get very excited about the last 3 albums. they're just as impressive as anything else he's ever done. they're mature, current & memorable. plenty of artists out there totally respecting this man as a role model - completely admiring his energy & passion. as far as i can c, he's gt a ton of creative mileage left in him. RESPECK! he's still unpredictable - quite exciting not knowing what he'll b doing next. part of his big charm. try listening 2 other bands, u will eventually return 2 planet earth & embrace it like u never wanna let it outta yer site again. i do this from time 2 time, it's very healthy! OMG, that's almost a mirror of how I am with Prince. I made a vow when I was 16 that no matter what was happening with Prince, I was sticking with him. It's been rough as hell and I've wanted to "throw in the towel" at times but when I think of what his music has meant to me and what his music does for me, I realize that the good outweighs the bad. I have no idea where my life would be musically and thensome if it wasn't for Prince and his music. I thank God daily for Prince and I hope that God does more with Prince so that in turn, the music will help to make our lives a little happier. [Edited 12/20/07 6:22am] I'm not a fan of "old Prince". His current "slump" began in about 1996. Longer than a lot of people here have actually been fans.

Yeah and then he does something like threaten you with legal action & you realize you're married to a high-heeled Ike Turner. Repeated abuse like that gets old, like the bruises on Tina.
