Prince hired to play private party for 1million

Prince hired to play private party for 1million

http://uk.news.launch.yah...=l_news_dm

It seems that the recent UK tour was not the last time that Prince would play his hits as stated as Prince was hired to play a show for a multi-millionaire businessman where he performed his best known songs. It seems that Prince's much vaunted artistic integrity goes out the window when a bit fat cheque is dangled in front of him.

1. If you believed that London would be the last time Prince would play his hits .... this line gets trotted out almost every tour!

2. Prince has played private parties, as reported here (including this one) several times ... at least three this year.

3. If someone chooses to play a private party for a large sum of money, it doesn't mean their 'much vaunted artistic integrity' (whatever that means) has gone 'out the window'.

yeah, no grudge against Prince here.

A million for a night's work is a cool paycheque, I'd do it if I had the opportunity, and I'd hire him if I had the opportunity smile

...good for Prince...I just don't see a problem with this at all...someone is paying an artist to perform his art...Prince happens to be a well-known artist who can and should charge a lot of money to play his music...

The link says: Prince plays private party for GBP1 million

GBP? Can somebody confirm what GBP is. Could it stand for Great British Pounds?

If so I wouldn't expect him to play for the public in the US for some time as he may well of caught on to the fact that the US dollar has blown out and is now worth little more than toilet paper. He's probably waiting for the next line of north american currency - the Amero.

Right now the exchange rate is 1GBP = 1.99USD...the article I read said that he was paid 1 million GBP...so $2,000,000...

I'll plagiarize myself and repeat, with a minor addition, what I wrote in a similarly-themed thread in another Org's section [lazy me:)..]:

I'm not an economist, [and not being in the US, I don't know anything about kc, the sunshine band and Jeffrey Soffer], so sorry if this sounds a naive question, but isn't there such a thing as market prices?

A concert by Prince at the O2 Arena in London costs 31.21 pounds, a performance by Prince at a private party costs $2 million [for ex.], a private concert by a little known artist costs between $xx and $xx, and a concert by a world famous one costs 10-20 times more. Does that make any sense?
And there is such a thing as the 'elite market'. Here in Moscow there is the annual Millionaires' Fair showcasing luxury goods and services in various sectors and which is open to the public. I could walk around there for hours whining about how unfair and disgusting it all is. But then, there is a market for it.

No matter how cold and calculating it sounds, music is a business, therefore its participants play by the economic rules of that business. And no matter how romantic or spiritual some of Prince's ballads and thoughtful lyrics are, he too has to play by those rules. And I don't think it would make any sense, economic as well as image-wise, for him to cheapen himself by not aksing for fees in the top range - when he is charging someone in the elite market.

As for the moral aspect of participating in the economy of his business sphere in the most profitable way he can, and for the issue of artistic integrity, that I think is a question of a personal order: something that's between himself and his conscience.

Cool if I hit the Lottery, I'll get Prince to play the party cool lol

But yeah a kewl million is nice! These people have to remember where they started and all those years Prince would be so hungry that he would just walk into Mc Donalds and smell the food. Thats drive and all those low points now should be respected when someone wants to pay you to perform your artistic gift for a MILLION DOLLARS!!

Now thats a Gig

cool
