my favorites r pearls b4 the swine and ona man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I love this CD and I find it funny that on the live box set, which is also great, he only has 2 cuts (One Nite Alone and Avalanche) from the original songs. I would love to have a live version of A Case of U.

that would have meant paying joni mitchell royalties..hence during 1+1+1 is 3 doesn't contain the riff from the ohio players love rollercoaster man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

[Edited 12/17/07 19:58pm] my biggest problem with the ONA piano cd is that it's prince's least melodic songwriting ever. i think the sparseness of the album is really refreshing from him, and i think the lyrics are at least very interesting and ponderous. i think it's a chore to listen to, but i'd rather have albums like this than albums like 'planet earth' any day. Ur Gonna See Me, Objects in the Mirror, Young and Beautiful and Arboretum are just absolutely worthless. Like the songs are desperately trying very very hard to contribute to the sense of the theme which was.....wait. It was a birdsnest The chord structures on those songs sound totally lazy, as if he just did some oddball combination expecting we would think it was a funky stroke of brilliance. The recurring dolphin click sound or whatever that sound is, is annoying. On the flipside, Have a Heart sounds like something constructed from the really early early days and feels warmly familiar and like a very well crafted rework of something he did in 76 or 77. Avalanche is amazing as is Pearls Before the Swine. I really do feel this totally misses the mark. I mean when you compare the brilliance on the keys with songs like Condition of the heart or the deuling synths at the beginning of Annastesia, you can't even believe it's the same person tryin to pass this stuff off. I will take the truth any and every day over this and honestly, this album informed my expectations of White Chalk. I see this album as merely a stunt and a novelty, whereas the Truth wasn't made because of any of the fans expectations. It just kind of came from out of nowhere and I loved that about that album. I thought White Chalk was going to be a novelty act but thank GOD it wasn't true .
