There's no verification it is Prince stuff presently. ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

Totally FAKE in my opinion. Sounds like who ever did it doesn't even know what they're doing, just trying to recreate as many Prince-sounding riffs he/she knows. Musically it's all over the place, conflicting riffs in different keys with no direction. Just sounds plain horrible!
With the right equipment, even I could easily make something more convincing. [Edited 12/14/07 16:16pm] Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

I've listened to alot of P. music in my time, why would someone go to ALL that bother to try pull off this type of fake?...why record brand new instruments like guitars and keyboards to create a fake???
It dosen't make sense, imo...it's legit. But we'll know soon enough if the boot surfaces. I got his info: "we can confirm that Prince/The Rain And U (PKR 003 1322 RY8) will be available in January 2008 and it will contain previously un-circulated studio material. -PurpleKnight Records Promotions Team" CAT #...so we'll see. The only way now to put this to bed is if PurpleKnights provide another file with Prince singing, as in an outtake...all agree?

ufoclub said: my professional opinion is this Jaguar outtake is fake, someone looped the real beat and added slightly too soft EQ'd (by prince's standards) and too softly attacked additional instruments.
Prince never ever records guitars and keys softly with reverb that cushions. He is ALWAYS hard on the mix with the guitar embellishments. It's compressed and pops on his real mixes. Even the demos. Also the actual composition is too mellow in flavor for him! He always makes his compositions bug or tickle in some way. I respect your opinion bro, i'm still convinced this is legit...but we'll soon know, i assume you've heard it by now? "Waiting to be banned"

[Edited 12/14/07 16:16pm] Fair enough...but why would you go to that degree to make a fake?...there is no real profit in boots anymore, and word would spread quickly if the boot turned out to be full of fakes. I'm holding out hope on this one.....shit we BADLY need something new!! "Waiting to be banned"

I respect your opinion bro, i'm still convinced this is legit...but we'll soon know, i assume you've heard it by now? I listened very carefully in headphones and you know I've listened to a lot of Prince and I know that the additional instruments do not sound exactly like his style of playing or recording, and it's the recording part that is the real give away. All the instrument selections are dead on, but it is someone with much less attitude playing and recording. It's not sharp and compressed, and Prince makes it a point to ALWAYS record that way as part of his brand of sound. Femi has talked of this with me at a celebration. Prince always tries to make embellishments pop like funk guitar out in the mix, and this funk guitar sound watery and mellow. Remember the expert fake instrumentals that came out months ago that fooled everyone? these recordings seem like they are from the same prankster (and talented musician), who eventually will admit it as fun joke. I think it's a prank, but a good one. Of course I could be wrong! But i don't think so, I'm using the force, and The one ring tells me as well. Compare how sharp the "real" Jaguar beat loop is to the funk guitar that is added on. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

Now that I listen to it again, although I have little ear for technical stuff, but it sounds more like something from minneapolis genius era, and definately sounds too soft to be a demo, sounds like all the instruments hide behind the percussion. If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

My thinking was it sounded alot like the first madhouse album, as per instruments....i didn't know there had been some newer fake instrumentals that were put about?
The challenge to this "label" has been put out...produce a Prince song with lyrics, like "Cosmic Day" or some such song...thats the only way to prove this release is legit. "Waiting to be banned"

They had all the right sounds for each era. They kept silent while everyone oohed and awwwed and then came forward and admitted it was a hoax. It was a musician/producer. I was fooled but then after listening over and over the recordings had the same signs as this one (not the hard technical recording techniques and the quick attack while playing the notes as Prince does). but I could be wrong!
