The Walking Stick Can someone enlighten me about the 'walking sticks' Prince used to carry around? What was that all about? I know Elvis had a phase where he did something similar! What is it!!?
He actually looked like he was really using it sometimes - was his hip playing him up even back then?

I doubt that he really needed it, back in the day it was considered 'cool', and Prince really knew how to swing it.

I guess they can be both stylish and practical...When I hurt my wrists, I was happy to have colorful homemade wrist bands...and when kids get hurt they have the colorful casts...
Sadly, some of us have wilder spirits than our bodies can handle...I'm living through that now.... Sometimes I feel like I'm gonna take one more step, after dancing my heart out all of my life, and turn into dusty rubble...I was recently hurt, and trying to return to normal activities right away...Is not healthy...You cannot pretend, your neck is not broken...if it is...Or your hips are worth walking 5 miles on, if their not. When ya turn forty, ya need to slow down a bit....Or you'll end up at the doctor. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

I have a friend who jumped from the balcony at a concert over a year ago, he got a bit over excited! He smashed his heel to pieces and is still having operations, they are worried he might lose his foot ! and he's only in his early 30's!! So, yes, we need to think before we act sometimes ...

He actually looked like he was really using it sometimes - was his hip playing him up even back then? You had to have seen the .?. tour in 1998. I've seen him 3x that tour but the last concert of this tour, I believe it was the 27th of December in Gent was superb. He played a long show and then he disappeared and the lights went on. We all yelt like crazy, it seemed for hours. Me, I always have my binoculars with me and at the side of the stage, a little hiden, there he was standing with a cane. He stood there silent and leaning on that cane for a least 15 minutes and everybody thought he had left already. He looked so fine and then he strolled with this cane onto the stage. Bloody freakin' cool I say! And not only because of the good show but also because of that moment with cane. After that he played another 30min with the houselights on, so good. The 27th was in Gent and maybe because it was the last show of the tour, I don't know, the atmosphere was different. Everybody sang and danced, he even mentioned laughing the show with these Germans, he was really annoyed. He was in such a good mood and the fans were too, it's an interaction, give and take. He stood there for 15 minutes and he must have felt like god. Normally at the end "we fans" clap and scream but not for long, everybody clapped, stomped their feet and yelt/whistled for 15 minutes. I think he had chills on his back! He gave an encore of 30min. His show must have been around 2,5 hours

That must be the most amazing feeling in the world - people applauding and screaming for you to come back for 15 whole minutes - incredible. I'm sure he'll be going back to Gent on his world tour then?! Strange about Cologne - were they all in a coma too? Just kidding! I hope you were ok, must have been disappointed to miss the show! Fantastic story, thanks CJanssen Sorry for the edits - getting tired (or is it the wine ?) [Edited 12/14/07 14:55pm] [Edited 12/14/07 14:56pm]

WTF! no one sang or danced in cologne! ... You were there? That was also the fault of the organisation. I sat, how do you say that, at a ring like a balcony. We were told to SIT and not even try to stand. There were these security people watching us like we were little children. I was like WTF, sitting at a Prince concert???? When looking down, the people in the middle of the field could dance because they stood but it was pretty quiet. I can't remember exactly but in Utrecht Prince started during the concert with or the music or the first line of Darling Nikki, everybody took over and chanted the whole song, he was very pleased and called us naughty. In Cologne NOBODY answered him back and that's just part of the game, he wants us to sing the song, at least recognize it. Not many did, he just looked bothered and went on with another song. After 1 hour he just left like that, no encore, I was baffled, 1 hour for a lot of money but I was not angry at him but at the crowd, it sucked mayor time. Well, he made up for that one in Gent.
