Well,I'm glad to see that I'm not the only Bryan Adams fan around here smile

As for Lionel Ritchie,I agree with Pfunkjazz,'Can't Slow Down' is a kickass record. To those of you who think he lost his "soul" with that album, you need to go back and listen to the track "Love Will Find A Way".That's the best song on the record, and also the most soulful.

This guy I know was singing "Sail On" by the Commodores and I tried to tell him "Sail On" was Country music. He said "No, that's the Commodores."...I sang the song to the guy and put the emphasis on the vocal phrasing even more than Richie does - he figured it out. Richie's affinity for Country is cool, and has been there before his solo recordings. I don't dislike it. But the Pop stylings...eek

Didn't he write "Lady" for Kenny Rogers?

The Commodores formed on the Tuskegee Institute campus. That's in Alabama. Lionel ain't fakin' it. He's as country as he wanna be.

Those jams he did for Kenny Rogers made him a shitload of money. I love when there's a black guy behind some white star setting up royalties and productions like Dre is with EMINEM. fro

No doubt "Runnin'" stole from MJ, but they were cool about it all the way. Led to "We Are The World". Didn't Lionel hip Prince to Sheila E offa this jammy or did he just borrow her?

I never could stand those Bryan Adams songs barf

I'm not sure exactly how Prince first found out about Sheila. It could have been a number of ways: she played for George Duke, Con Funk Shun, Herbie Hancock, Billy Cobham, and her father, Pete Escovedo who was a member of Santana. So it could be through Pete by way of Santana, or it could be through any number of the sessions she played on with other musicians. Although she was in that video I don't think she did any session work with Richie, but I could be wrong.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Did anybody ever realize that after the Americn Music Awards in which Prince gave one of the greatest Performances of Purple Rain, plus he was Touring at the Time well and then the same night with the USA For Africa session;in which Shelia E went to but was a friend of Lionel Ritchie right ,well every Artist's album went to the top of the charts as Prince's Purple Rain album Declined? That was Absolute BULLSHIT BUREAUCRACY and that was Quincy Jones,Michael Jackson,BoB Geldorf and Lionel Ritchie's effort right? What Crap! What was that all about anyway? They later found out that Jackson pulled out of the effort cause the money wasn't going in to the right hands you know and yes people got paid they said so it was quite Bogus really. What's with U2 anyway? I mean their Early albums were Great and Powerful now it's all the same sound. When they first came out with Boy and October and with Sunday Bloody Sunday well that was Fantastic. That was Different and Spirited but where do you hear them played on the radio either anymore? Seems like alot of POLITIcking going On!

I guess he was Too Much of a Man for that Shit! Unfair! Unfair! He was Robbed and yes he is right to ask "WHEN WILL WE BE PAID?"

I don't think Prince is gonna be nobody's MUTHERFUCKING SLAVE especially not WARNER'S and he wants OWERSHIP OF THOSE MASTERS...I don't know about Artists Rights, but this is definately a Cold War between Prince and Warner Brothers that has gone on for too LONG! When do U think It will End? If Ever?

that was the Cut on that Album for me as well.Lionel Richie also wrote another song on Kenny Rogers called "Goin Back to Alabama" with Both Michael Jackson&Lionel Richie on Background vocals.Mike&Lionel are cool.but as far as "We Are The World" the Song MJ pretty much did the whole Song Himself.Lionel wrote a little bit but that is MJ's Song.

I'll tell ya what I hate. Well when Prince won his AMA awards in 1985 why did Jackson and Ritchie have to Steal his Thunder and Ruin his night with WE ARE THE WORLD? And why in the Hell couldn't he Celebrate his Win with Wendy without being called a Creep for not doing the sessions? Couldn't he Celebrate at a Club? He promised them a song well why was he made to look shitty and like he had no Heart for USA for AFRICA? That wasn't Fair and the Academy and Dick Clark and Michael and All Owe Prince Big Apologies and he Deserves not only a Star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame and at least 1 block before Jackson cause of his Games which I don't like. He Deserves a Lifetime Achievement of Some kind and Michael should really stop his War against Prince and stop naming his kids Prince. That's RUDE! Nobody knows what went down between Prince and Jackson but they should quit the Bullshit Already! And Prince Michael quit the Jehovahs and why was that? Investigate ! Don't be a Puppet please be Free!

I know! It wasn't like he didn't care. He recorded 4 the tears in your eyes for the album.I didn't see Madonna up there either. Is she a creep, no! Was David Bowie up there? No! I get so mad when I think of that.

Supernova. RE: Sheila E & Lonel ritchie. She was in his touring band 83/84. I don't know how Prince ever heard of her, but this is when a lot folks not into jazz fusion heard about (and saw) her.

Mistermaxxx: Youv'e got some real inside info if you think know which part of "WATW" MJ wroe and which part is Ritchie's. All i know is 1) both are credited on the song and 2) Lionel plays piano and composes most of his songs on piano. So even if MJ merely wrote the lyrics, I doubt he's resposible for much of the melody, harmony or arrangements.

Maybe the answer is simple,
if "Purple Rain" had been released before "Thriller" probably would be today the best selling album of all time.
Many people didn't like Prince because compared him with Michael Jackson and so refused to hear his music, Michael was so soft and suddenly appears Prince so "dirty" and sexual, many people only based on his image never tried to listen his music, belive me! I know some of them that only some years later recognised his talent.
