This was probably discussed already, but why was he performing The Gold Experience tracks on tour many months before the album came out? Makes no sense...
confused

becuase the album was finished as early as late 1993.

he wanted tro release it in 1994 but he wernt allowed. thus him changing hes name and only performing new songs, not prince songs

Well OK, but wasn't he concerned that the fans and everybody who went to his shows didn't even know those songs existed and he mostly played those in concert?
confused

it would of been hypocritical to change your name and distance yourself from the prince figure, than come out and play kiss and purple rain

Even listening to it in the car at the moment!

Makes sense... But it really hurt his relevance and public image, that he was performing only then-currently not released songs, right?

And don't forget he'd already aired "The Beautiful Experience" TV Special which featured a couple of the tracks.

If only "We March" had been "Lovesign" this would have been a pretty darn perfect Album.

But did the tour itself do well and did it get good reviews? And didn't it hurt the attendance of the tour after this one (because he refused to sing old hits)?

That's because at the time it looked like The Gold Experience would never get
released. So Prince decided to tour the album anyway. The idea being that he
was basically a 'new' artist without a record deal or any officially released
material. So the only way to hear his new album was to come to the show and
hear it live.

Well in that way, he was doing the right thing, and the songs were good enough too, better than most of his material in the past few years. So was the tour a success?

in some countrys the crowds were brilliant and they loved the new stuff, others wernt so sure, the england crowd on the 4th march wembley show sounds poor. it sounds like about 12 people have turned, and 2 are death and 9 are drunk.

As I recall, didn't the tour not do too well financially because of the million-dollar stage that Roy Bennett pleaded with Prince not to make, and which he couldn't even completely put up at some venues?

Re TGE, I always loved that he put a diff version of TMBGITW, more faithful to the live version, on the album.

If only "We March" had been "Lovesign" this would have been a pretty darn perfect Album.[/quote]

This is without a doubt Princes greatest album from the nineties, and being a fan from the 80's, (I think we've all noticed that the 80's fans favour all the earlier albums, and all the fans from the nineties see Prince from a totally different perspective and are all about the nineties!), I rate this album in my top 5.

It is brilliant, brilliant, brilliant! The only song that I don't care much for is "We March" but I wouldn't replace it with "Lovesign".....

I think "Interactive" should have been on this album. That song is too easily forgotton and should have made the album.

1) Interactive
2) Endorphinmachine (original version)
3) Shhh
4) Days Of Wild
5) Now
6) The Most Beautiful Girl In The World (Mustang Mix)
7) Acknowledge Me
8) Ripopgodazippa
9) Love Sign
10) Dolphin
11) Pussy Control
12) 319
13) Hide The Bone
14) Billy Jack Bitch
15) I Hate U
16) Gold

This would have been a killer wink

Fantastic album and tour, it was such a pity that Dayz of Wild and Interactive didn´t make it onto the album. Ok, they made it onto the Crystal Ball, but not everyone has that. Funk wise, Dayz of Wild kicks the shit out of about anything he did of that gerne in the 90´s, i would nearly put the song on a par with DMSR.
If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

Question for oldschool prince fans.

Do you like this album like the cats posting?

or is this a newbie thing?

I think its ok,... overated, I think of this period as the begining of the dumbed down music and lyrics.

"I Hate U" is the best of the bunch, the eric leeds extended version best.

depends what is oldskool, I have been a P fan since 84, not sure if that is counted as oldskool or not. It is fair to say, the TGE would have had problems living up to most of P´s early 80´s work but it would have been a good follow up to Lovesexy instead of Batman

My most fav is the beginning of "eye hate U" b4 he starts all the talking lol eye wish he would have put a third and fourth verse in there. Its one of the most beautiful dark song eye have heard. And Shhh, Endorphin Machine, Gold is up there 2.
