And didn't it hurt the attendance of the tour after this one (because he refused to sing old hits)?

That's because at the time it looked like The Gold Experience would never get released. So Prince decided to tour the album anyway. The idea being that he was basically a 'new' artist without a record deal or any officially released material. So the only way to hear his new album was to come to the show and hear it live.

Yeah, especially the second night, some awesome jams and his great putdown :"This ain't a photo-session, muthaf***er!!" "Had to get off the boat so I could walk on water..."

As I recall, didn't the tour not do too well financially because of the million-dollar stage that Roy Bennett pleaded with Prince not to make, and which he couldn't even completely put up at some venues?
Re TGE, I always loved that he put a diff version of TMBGITW, more faithful to the live version, on the album. "Had to get off the boat so I could walk on water..."

My God what an album. I LOVE the shit outta this CD. It's criminal that it's out of print. Prince was on point like a mofo when he did this CD. P Control, Endorphinemachine, Dolphin, Hate U and Gold are my jams. Hell, I love the whole thing. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

This is without a doubt Princes greatest album from the nineties, and being a fan from the 80's, (I think we've all noticed that the 80's fans favour all the earlier albums, and all the fans from the nineties see Prince from a totally different perspective and are all about the nineties!), I rate this album in my top 5. It is brilliant, brilliant, brilliant! The only song that I don't care much for is "We March" but I wouldn't replace it with "Lovesign"..... I think "Interactive" should have been on this album. That song is too easily forgotton and should have made the album. Life's a Parade! LoveLife, LoveSexy!

Fantastic album and tour, it was such a pity that Dayz of Wild and Interactive didn´t make it onto the album. Ok, they made it onto the Crystal Ball, but not everyone has that. Funk wise, Dayz of Wild kicks the shit out of about anything he did of that gerne in the 90´s, i would nearly put the song on a par with DMSR. If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

Question for oldschool prince fans.
Do you like this album like the cats posting? or is this a newbie thing? I think its ok,... overated, I think of this period as the begining of the dumbed down music and lyrics. "I Hate U" is the best of the bunch, the eric leeds extended version best.

It is fair to say, the TGE would have had problems living up to most of P´s early 80´s work but it would have been a good follow up to Lovesexy instead of Batman If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.
