"Prince Live at the Aladdin Las Vegas" DVD!

Last week I was raving about the videos on aol.com and vh1.com and mentioned that I love the video "Gotta Broken heart Again". I was pleasantly surprised to find that I already have this video!!!!!

I also remember how I said that I didn't like it all that much (a few weeks ago). Since finding it though, I can say that I love it and the fact that I can watch it anytime I want to!

It's obvious what my favorite is highlight is, what do you enjoy from this dvd?

i enjoy that it resembles watching something on youtube.

seriously though, for someone that records everything, the quality of the video footage is shite... you'd think he could share something with us of higher quality. like say, an aftershow from 1988...

add playing 'prince live @ the aladdin' on a 1080p lcd, (even upconverted), it looks like an audience shot film.

there are better boot vids floating around out there... (both in quality of the video, and quality of the music.)

that said, highlights are "the ride," the nikka costa cover, and the led zep cover.

Yeah, it's an atrocious DVD. It looks like some fan's camcorder footage, and even the audio quality is really bad. I can't even watch it.

I really love this DVD - for me this is when Prince stopped trying to be a young pop star and matured as a live performer. The climax of Gotta Broken Heart rocks, Strange Relationship, Whole Lotta Love, it's all great (except the Nikka Costa bit - she yelps and not in a good way)

I really was tripping on the part where he spoke in his other voice (was that the Camille voice?), sorry, but I was tripping out because I never saw him DO that voice.

horrid video...I would love to know the though process behind recording and releasing such poor video (quality). However it was and still is amazing to see the performances of 'gotta broken heart'. Especially the end here Maceo completes his horn solo and Prince comes in singing that same note (nearly). He's on fire vocally. It shows that the guy, if he wanted and concentrated on singing only, could rival the best. I mean, we all know he sang 'adore' but it's nice to see him take his time and do it livce like this. Beautiful. His version of 'Whole lotta love' is just the best I've heard. I saw him do it at the 2002 Soundcheck in Toronto and thouught it was awesome until I saw wha the did here. The guitar work was awesome..watching him do it should impress anyone who plays. The style coupled with ability is just phenomenal. '

Watching him do 'strollin' and then going into that awesome unreleased 'u want me' was pretty thrilling. It all comes so easy to him.

NOTE TO PRINCE - RELEASE SOME OLD TOURS ON DVD. SPEND THE MONEY ON ENSURING IT'S WELL PRODUCED. LONG TIME FOLLOWERS ARE AT LEAST IN THEIR 30S NOW. THEY WILL SHELL OUT A LOT TO BUY THOSE SHOWS...I.E. LOVESEXY SHOWS/SIGN/PARADE!!! WE'LL PAY EXTRA FOR AFTERSHOWS.

Just do it...

I very rarely call Prince a fool, but that is exactly what he is for not having a high quality concert DVD available for purchase. It is an absolute travesty for someone who supposedly prides himself on his live performances to only have Rave Unto The Year 2000 and Live at the Aladdin on the market. Both of these DVDs are terrible (and I mean terrible) audio and visual wise.

Damn near every artist has a high quality concert DVD for sale. And that goes for a lot lesser known artists as well.

I just purchased John Fogerty's "A Long Road Home" concert DVD, and it is stunning in both visual clarity and DTS 5.1 surround. Prince if your reading this, go get this DVD and let whoever produced and mastered it work on one of your shows.

I would be embarrassed for someone who is just getting interested in you to buy "Aladdin" and go home and watch that shit.

whats always bothered me even more than the a/v quality is that the director SEEMS (i know it was credited to sanaa hamri, who from her other work seems to know what shes doing, im just criticising this one dvd based on its direction) to have no idea how to shoot musicians, let alone musicians as good as the ona band. even gotta broken heart again, despite being the best song on there imo, has two glaring example of this. when renato is improvising on the intro, it shows his face. a close-up of his face. not his face and the piano, or a zoom out from his face to a shot of him playing the piano, a close-up of just his face which for about a millesecond at the end zooms out showing nothing. mute it and you might as well be watching renato fill out his fucking tax return. and then, most infuriatingly, when maceo starts his solo, instead of actually showing him PLAYING the fucking thing, it cuts to fucking STILL PHOTOS of each band member. WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHAT THE HELL DAMN CRAP

A very decent show cut short.
I like the raw feel of the gig which helps by the poor film quality..very much has a bootleg feel to it.
The Ride is a standout for me.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

Yes, it is better than Aladdin, but the mix in 5.1 is appalling to my ears.

Definitely the song selection is better, but I don't like it as much because the energy isn't really there. The Vegas DVD is a real concert at least. Something about it makes it more exciting to me.

Rave does kick in at some point, maybe around Gett Off, but much of it feels too staged.
