Dream Factory

I just got done listenin 2 this. The sound quality's amazing, by the way!
My thoughts are, why didn't Prince release this album? I know nearly half the songs went on Sign O' the Times instead, but Prince still had enough tracks to release it in say, Fall of 1986 as a prelude to Sign O' the Times, using these outtakes:

1. Visions
2. Neveah Ni Ecalp A
3. Dream Factory
4. Train
5. Interlude
6. Crystal Ball
7. A Place in Heaven
8. Last Heart
9. Movie Star
10.Witness 4 the Prosecution
11.All My Dreams

What do U think about Dream Factory? cool
eye wish U were here baby, on me--

You'll notice that the songs that made it onto SOTT (with the exception of Strange Releationship and It's gonna be a beautiful night) were the solo tracks in that era. The ones left off SOTT which are in your list have Wendy and Lisa all over them.

In other words, The Dream Factory was a Prince and the Revolution album. With The revolution spliting up in autumn 86, he wasn't going to make his new album a production by his former group. So he re-cut it re-named it with far more solo tracks.

I think its safe to say that many of those left over tracks would have made it onto "Roadhouse Garden" has it come off.

Imagine if the Dream Factory was released next year, how do you think it would be viewed by the music press and fans. I think both of them would agree that it is one fine album.

But then again, I think it would highlight the gap between his music then and some of his current material - which I like, but which I also believe is not the same high standard that he has set himself.

Sorry I don't agree. I think Prince's bar was set so high long ago that NOTHING he ever releases again will ever earn the respect his earlier work does. In fact I cannot think of any artist who is considered better 30 years into their career than they were in the firtst 10!

I would bet money on Dream Factory being completely slagged off by a fair few if it was released now! Damn some people on the Org would probably even say "hell I preferred New Power Soul!"
'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

I would love to see Prince recut all these tracks to contemperory production; as you know this is what Prince does often, so why not now?

One track I wish he would pimp is Last Heart; amazing song. Re-do it, cut a hip video (and AIR it) and have a hit for once in a while.

He does not have to do Train, though, Goldfrapp recorded a song with that title (not a Prince cover) and I must admit, I like that one better.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Romeoblu

I put together a CD of the songs that didn't make Sign O The Times from 1985-1986 that I have in excellent sound quality and it makes a great album

Dream Factory
It's A Wonderful Day
Teacher, Teaqcher
Train
Splash
Power Fantastic
Crucial
Last Heart
Sexual Suicide
Witness
Old Friends 4 Sale (1985 version with Clare Fischer's orchestration)
All My Dreams

Would love to include In A Large room with no light but the sound quality isn't up to scratch.

Wonderwall

My version of Dream Factory:

Visions
Dream Factory
Train
Ballad of Dorothy Parker
Strange Relationship 86
Large Room With No Light
Sexual Suicide
Splash
Data Bank
Joy in Repetition
It's A Wonderful Day
A Place in Heaven (Lisa)
Witness 4 The Prosecution
Teacher Teacher
Power Fantastic
Movie Star
All My Dreams

I consider this as much an album as any other Prince album. Other than Sign o The Times, Parade, and Purple Rain...this one gets more spins on the player than anything the guy released.

That's exactly what will happen. More people will be pissed than happy when they hear the final cut.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

On that note Dream Factory coulda came out as the final P & the Revolution album. Not that it matters, but eye think Dream Factory, All My Dreams & maybe even Train or Last Heart woulda been successful singels. An outtake eye like much better though, is Good Love cool
