The Prince Of Publicity (L.A. Times) http://www.latimes.com/en...ment/news/
It's about halfway down...it's a slide show. Funny, but it's not exactly a glowing piece, which makes me wonder why they bothered doing it at all lol...

Wow - that was harsh. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

The LA Times said: Scheme:
Prince opened the 2004 Grammy Awards by performing with Beyonce. How it worked: The year 2003 brought us solid albums from such mainstream artists as OutKast, the White Stripes, Jay-Z and Radiohead. So why was Prince opening the 2004 Grammys performing a medley of his non-2003 hits with Beyonce? For purely marketing and promotion reasons, and it stank, especially at a show that’s supposed to be honoring the past year in music. I sure hope they publish their cease and desist letter, when they get it! [Edited 12/5/07 11:43am]

What? Are you saying those negative comments made about him, published on a public website that incorporated his copyrighted image shouldn't warrant a cease and desist letter?

They are just on his D*** because he's making all the money you can make as an independent black man in the music business..
someone needs to ask them.. "If Prince's shameless self promotion is so horrible...why are you giving him more publicity in your paper"

in Prince's defense, did the guy miss the rest of the show?

I really think the cease and desist letter are a scare tactic directed at fansites. I don't think P gives a rat's ass about the real media.
He would stand no chance of winning a lawsuit against them and they certainly are not going to go along with his demands. I think he wants to direct traffic to his own site and is using the letters as a scare tatic to get the fansites to close out of fear. I really think it is all about the almighty dollar. P wants to get people on his site to buy crap and he knows these fans sites can not afford to fight a lawsuit. In the end it is nothing for any of us to get our panties in a bunch over. The internet is too wide for anyone to control it. I do not have an issue at all with him suing Pirate Bay. ----- SexyBeautifulOne said: What? Wait...what?
I just had a couple of Top Shelf Long Islands at lunch...so I could be seriously tripping but did I just read laurarichardson say that Prince is a money grubbing bully who picks on his fansites because of jealousy and greed or has her account been hacked??? Somebody help me out here because I've got a dinner meeting at that same restaurant in a little while and I need to know if I should go lay my ass down somewhere, first! laurarichardson said: I really think the cease and desist letter are a scare tactic directed at fansites. someone needs to ask them.. "If Prince's shameless self promotion is so horrible...why are you giving him more publicity in your paper" For real right? They're just being stupid while giving Prince all the publicity he needs. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

What's so interesting in the piece is that the writer said that the show should have focused on music from the previous year. It's clear the writer was not listening cause if he/she was, he/she would have noticed that in the middle of the medley, Prince played a bit of "Crazy in Love", one of the biggest hits of 2003, so that writer needs to watch that perfomance again and get his/her eyes and ears checked in the process. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

The music business is a business. Don't be naive enough to think that P is any different than anyone else in business. He likes to make money and I think the whole ceast and desist issue is about money.
I just wish the rest of you could see that. SexyBeautifulOne said: Wait...what?
