Ah... it sounds like you were in the same position I was when I first got it. Those were the 4 songs I already knew that I liked. I was automatically impressed by "Thunder" Prince is awesome as a one-band band Enjoy I think the rest took me a while to get into Walk, Don't Walk and Live 4 Love were among the first. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

I have one more to take... and if it is as the professor said it would be, I should do well The other two came and went. The first was really easy and the 2nd was a bit more difficult... but I'll live. just to stay on topic, Gett Off hasn't really been mentioned very much here at all. Truth be told, it took me a while to get into that song at first. The video was kinda disturbing when I saw it the first time But once I heard it a few more times, I started liking it. It's one of the most fun tracks on this album so fun to sing along 2. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

I think it's pretty average.
Thunder is one of his more typically overproduced, overly saturated 90's songs, and songs like Daddy Pop and Push are annoyingly shallow and forgettable pop. The album is also full of the horrifically corny Tony, culminating in the worst Prince song ever recorded. The album's not a waste, though. It has a few classic pop gems like Cream and Diamonds and Pearls, as simple as they may be. As an album, I find it almost unbearable. As a chance to hear some great individual songs, it has a lot of value. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

One of my all time favorite albums from da man. As it has been repeated many times in this thread the worst part of this album was Tony M. but the musicoligy of this album cancels his sorry/tired raps out. There were too many gems on this album to dismiss it as even mediocre. Thunder, Daddy Pop, Diamonds & Pearls, Money Don't Matter Tonight, Strollin', Willing & Able, Insatiable, Live 4 Love, Get Off and even the message in Push. This definitely was one of his best efforts.

Back in 1991 and 92,I loved this album.I don't think it aged well, though.I tried playing it a few weeks ago and I found myself skipping through every other track It was a cool album for its time but some of the songs sound really silly to me,now.

very nicely put. I haven't even thought of that. I'd say that the rapping keeps it from becoming an album better than average. I heard some of the songs were terrible, so I wasn't expecting much the first time around. Then I came across a couple of songs I had no idea what he was talking about (Daddy Pop and Live 4 Love eluded me 4 a while... Daddy Pop still kinda does)... The good making up for the bad... see I try to say the same about Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic (where Man O' War, love u but dont trust u anymore, The Greatest Romance are strong enough gems to keep the album from being a "complete loss")... but nobody listens to me the tracks they had are "so bad" that these gems are often forgetten about. Whether D&P is better than Rave, I still have to figure out for myself. I haven't had the time to really compare the two. When I was still debating on getting one or the other, someone suggested Rave and I took their advice... only to find that I didnt dig it at first (seemed a little alien actually). Diamonds & Pearls, I still need to spend time with to hammer out the kinks and see how I think it stacks up with his other material. I haven't had it for very long (3 months) and cuz of school and some other albums, I haven't been able to spend much time with it. Tony's rapping is actually tolerable (as in "I dont mind it") in two songs (Willing and Able, Live 4 Love)... in fact, I think it works. It kinda keeps Daddy Pop from being able to take on the other songs... and Push, I like, but I'll see how the whole thing sounds without it. I'm still experimenting with it, so... maybe I should come back when I'm more familiar with the album. Sorry I wasted anyone's time with my long post. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. i still rock this album ..the funk of daddy pop, push, the jazzy strollin, the rocker of live 4 love, the only "clunker" 4 me still is cream man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

If you took a closer look you would have noticed I left it off my list as well. People really got into it(I think it went to #2 on Billboard), but I never felt it.

My advice to you is not to listen to me put it nicely put listen intently to D&P. I've had it for the last sixteen years and still listen to it with regularity. It didn't take too long for it to grow on me(about 1 hour), but it grew on me alright.
