Computer Blue..which version do you like? As y'all know there are four versions circulating, but which one tickles your pickle?
While i love the final polish of the Hallway Sppech versions with all it's additional overdubs. there is alot to be said for the original early mixdown..the raw energy and unpolished feel is hard to ingnore. "Waiting to be banned"

The original full version I only have in low quality, so I'll go with the CD version. Keep in mind, as I always say, Purple Rain is not his best album! That's white people's favorite Prince album! =) Kick the old school joint 4 the true funk soldiers.

The 14 minute vers sounds good....But it's missing the hallway speech
So i go with the cleaned up 7 minute or the 12-13 minutes vers w/speech I guess all 3 . [Edited 11/23/07 21:01pm]

I don't know. I like the 14 min and the 11 min versions. Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

Definitely the purple rain version. If I am with my roommate anywhere and we hear this song, we immediately break down into the coordinated (air)guitar dance moves. Although I'd have to admit, we really only ever hear this song in our own living room. ...i might cook 4 u

Depends on my mood...some songs have so many "versions" that I can prefer on version one week and another the next. Computer Blue, Witness, and Soul Psychodelocide are just a few examples of this. It's almost like I consider the different versions to be different songs.

I like the 7 min. I think the ones that are longer are cool, but it goes on too long. However the longest version would have made a great B-Side. Christian Zombie Vampires

I dig the Hallway version. But I have or hjad one version that was the Hallway and melded into Darling Nikki. That was hot. _________________________________________

I didnt know there were all these versions lurking around. I was only aware of the album verison and the one I have. But thanks for those listings. I have the 11:57 version myself... so I'd have to go with that. Although... can't argue with the visuals from the movie had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. "Somebody please tell me that the F**k is going on" No Wendy & Lisa intro (Quality...not very good, sounds muffled) Sunset Sound version #2 11:57 Has the "Hallway Speech" & all the extra backgound vocals (Quality...Is good..but could be better) Sunset Sound version #3 12:26 This one is hard to tell whats diffrent Close to #2..mabye missing a few things (Quality...Sounds like crap, has a lot of hiss in it) Sunset Sound version #4 7:33 This sounds like an edit of version #2 And mixes in to Darling Nikki as on the album (Quality...Sounds near Cd quality ) The 14 min version #? 14:03 Is missing the hallway speech, princes back ground vocals, the girls lonley speech near the middle/end.. basicly its missing all the overdub etc... (Quality...The best sounding out of the first 3 vers ) Quality - Varies from bot to boot..as does the corect speeds

I thought there were 2 versions. You learn something new everyday . I'd go with the 11 min version. It was like a revelation the first time I heard that version and it made me love the song even more than before. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I wasn't looking for this personally... but someone offered to send me some outtakes and I had no idea what I wanted... and he ended up offering a load of PR outtakes, which included the 11 min version along with too many outtakes to name When I heard this version the first time... I was just blown away Just amazing, incredible in so many different ways... but it also had me about Prince... he just reaches these insane places sometimes, but that's a lot of talent in those 11 minutes had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. I like the "nod to Arnold Schoenberg" live version at 1st Avenue 3/8/83 (even achnowledge the 8,3 combos in that legend of a concert ?)
Thus prefer studio-wise the 7min version. But would not haven been aversed to having the long version on a 12"

I've heard more versions now.
I've heard the first version (13min), the 11min version, 12min version and the 7:33 version. The first one really shows how far that song has come in its "evolution"... no kidding, the music sounds like a computer would. In fact, it reminded me even more of "(Something in the Water) Does Not Compute"... but in addition the quality not being as good... it lacked a lot of the elements I love about the song. No scream at the end? talk about boring The 12-min one was interesting in so many ways, but I still have an affinity to the 11min version... then again, the newest version I got of it actually had more backing vocals than the one I had originally... The 7min version is really good, but I gotta listen to it on its own b4 I can decide... feels weird hearing it right after the 11min or 12min version cuz I know what's missing had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone
