Gett Off (original version). Erotic City. Lady Cab Driver. Automatic. Housequake. Sign O' The Times. Le Grind. Cindy C. We Can Funk. Kiss. Let It Go. If I Was Your Girlfriend. Pick any one of the above, if you're talking about hardcore funk. I miss the old days... Hardcore funk? Yep! Every one of those that I listed is superfunky. Most of the songs have hardcore subject matter, as well(sex related). Do you know your funk? For instance, if I said that song with Bootsy on it that has the bass line, guitar and the band screaming "Play" on it was superfunky, you would say WHAT?

These may not be "hardcore" but how comes nobody's mentioned Head and the brilliantly funky Chocolate and Wild & Loose?

Yes... and Prince ain't hardcore funk
To be honest, Prince has created some of the hardest, and most direct funktracks in history. The people who brag about discofied funk like Kool and the Gang and Rick James mistake some nostalgic 'idea' about hardcore funk with reality. Hardcore funk is not some 'cool-ism', its about funk hitting really hard musicwise, not smoothed or polished down like so many Earth, Wind and Fire-songs or songs by the Ohio Players. Its the line that goes from James Brown earliest funk tracks, to the more left-field songs of Sly Stone, to the most Pure-funk songs of Parliament, into the most uncompromising funk-jams of Prince. I don't like my funk 'washed down' with disco, plastic R&B and smooth soul, it just kills the directness and urgency of the music. In that sense i consider bands like The Urban Dance squad and Rage against the machine as artists who keep the appreciation for hard funk alive.

Period. You are SOOOOO right. Guys, we're talking 'bout "Hardest Funk". Meaning Prince acting like James on steroids, a Camille in full narcissic mode and a sound so perfectly dirty it teaches your hears to appreciate records like The Stooges Funhouse, amongst others, when you discover them years after (cuz at the time you were fifteen, of course). The Colors R brighter, the Bond is much tighter

Have you heard 3121 live yet?, that simply drips funk, there is one version which he did at the aftershow on the 16th of Sept, where DMSR is mixed into it, simply mindblowing..... "It´s going down ya, 21 nights in London" If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.
"True to his status as the last enigma in music, Prince crashed into London this week in a ball of confusion" The Times 2014
