Not going with Bambi or I am Yours, as some people here do. They are not really hard rocking in a raw, nasty, in your face way, but rather pastiches of the kind of FM-rock and Hard-rock that was popular in those days. Rocking indeed, but in a way too clean way for me.
But Prince really surprised me with his grittieness on the live version of Peach (especially during the coda 'riffing' on Chaos and Disorder) from The Sacrifice of Victor. And Da Bang from the Crystal Ball-set is another winner. One of the most 'alternative rock'-like tracks Prince has ever done. Oh, I like it there from Chaos and Disorder should be mentioned too, one of his rawest, sober rocksongs since the days of the Dirty Mind album.

I'm Yours has that disco kind of bridge to it so i think Bambi's the hardest rock song he's done. http://www.facebook.com/p...111?ref=ts

IMO Bambi has those falsetto-vocals weakening down the 'rockieness' of the song.
Next to that: Bambi might be a technically impressive take on late seventies hard-rock, but i miss the real urgency and intensity Prince did put in his guitarplaying later on in his career (especially during live performances).

yeah, I don't really consider I'm Yours a rock song, but it rocks very hard. My Legacy

Actually, Ronnie Talk To Russia rocks. It's not what you typically think of as a rock sound, what with the synths, but the rhythm absolutely rocks, along with the lead playing. My Legacy

My favorite is the finale of Family Name from the ONA Live set... blistering, and totally unexpected.

I'm surprised no one mentioned Rock and Roll's Alive. But then again, its more hard pop.
I just listened to Bambi. Yeah, that song is a headbanger. [Edited 12/6/07 8:49am] _________________________________________

That SNL Version of "FURY"..... which I just happened 2 have heard again, a few mins ago..... is the most on-fire I've ever seen him. THAT per4mance rocked. Shame the album version was so plastic and keyboard-centric. I Love U, But I Don't Trust U Anymore...

I have to admit, I don't listen to much "hard rock" so I may be off -- but what about: LOOSE!

Loose is definitely not rock, it might hit hard, but its essentialy house / rave-music.

Odd no one mentions the C&D live version recently aired on 3121, although just about everything he did that night rocked and better still i missed it If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.
