THE WAR-princes 'lost' classic

this realy is some deep shit!

im loving the full length version-i love the ambience and i love the fact its probably lost on most of the 4am crowd!

it has a real WTF?? quality and this was when alot of the hardcore thought P would never come out from the underground

lyrically and musically its scuba gear time!

and the guitar is SHREDDED!

can you imagine the perversity of giving this away FREE with a national tory newspaper! lol

It's interesting for about three minutes. Then it gets dull and repetitive.

nod

i like most everything about it, except some of the prince ramblings
going on are a bit childish, even by prince's own stanards, lol. but
i love the guitar solo and the percussion at the end is amazing!
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Anxiety

it's very random and spontaneous, and it has a cool beatnik vibe that makes me think shirley feenee should be doing her black scarf dance while this song plays. crazy, baby.

This is one cool, very long, track. I agree whoever said Prince's ramblings get childish...the whole microchip in the neck thing...wtf??

But as it progresses it gets very cool and the dude is CRAZY on that guitar. Someone else said it gets repetitive and boring...that is SO not the case for this one...it actually gets more interesting as it goes on imo.

My all time favorite Prince song bar none. Prince was channeling some other isht when he did that song. I love Prince's trippy vibe and that guitar is fierce.

And how about that breakdown??? Maaaan, I just love it when he's in that "other" place. nod

The timing of this thread was PERFECT.

I just gained possession of this [don't ask giggle] recently and I just listened to it for the first time.

The beginning was very interesting... haven't heard anything quite like it... then my interest waned... but then when he started talking, he had my full attention.

prince had a really interesting vision that night. Totally would have been something he would have talked about during the Controversy age. It just started getting better and better as time went on...

But then that guitar solo.... I've heard nothing like it before... it was beyond amazing guitar ...what really got my attention was the last part when some of the lyrics were identical to the beginning of "Gold"... I checked them up and they make me wonder what he meant... I think I got his meaning, though.

Overall... I dig, I dig cool
Very interesting and very unique.

I had only become aware of its existence recently... I've heard its pretty incredible... very cool. thumbs up!
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

I remember writing an entire essay about this song on NPGMC. A lot of his songs move me but this is the only one I felt compelled to write about in detail. I drive to work listening to it most mornings.

I absolutely love this song. I received it in the mail around 2000 I guess (what was the actual date it was recorded?) and didn't give it a thorough listen. I rediscovered it years later and was blown away! Now I'm kicking myself because I can't find my tape anywhere.sad

Cool thumbs up!
I was about to say I'd like to do that some time... but I think I might have already with my personal favorite.

It definitely has that WTF quality (couldn't have been said better, matthewgrant). The guitar is off-the-charts and is one of my top faves of his. I like how he goes off into some other-world-type shit.
