Eeew, isn't he gay? I know this topic has been duscussed over and over again, but I need to get this off of my chest. I am so darn SICK of these two comments far too many have to utter!!!! Almost every time I mention Prince to someone in their teens and twenties te first thing I hear is "Prince, isn't he like gay?". What the HECK has that to do with his music and so what if he were??? Then as the conversation continues and race comes up in the discussion it's: "what, Prince is black?? No, he can't be."
People must be blind and deaf. Why is it so hard for people to go beyond his appearance and falsetto? And how can we still live in a time where only hard core music fans seem to know anything about Prince? I try to ignore it, but it makes me sad to see how ignorant people are.

I agree completely.
My cousin mentioned Prince offhandly during Thanksgiving, in fact. The sky was purple... so she said Purple Rain... my dad said his car has as much horsepower as a corvette... so she said Little Red Corvette... but she was saying that he's gay. And I kept saying that he isn't. He's been married twice. Then she mentions Jim McGreevy I say that's completely different... and she asks how... I don't have a comeback for that one. But I clearly know a lot more than her when it comes to him. I got really in that argument cuz ignorance is in my own family... and I can't even defend myself to her. What am I supposed to say? I go this website and it says that he's not gay Like she's gonna buy that. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

No, because I've noticed that most people who aren't as interested in music as most of us don't bother to listen to lyrics. And way too many don't seem to know that Prince has done other songs than Purple Rain...

The easiest solution to your problem is to say this.
Prince is __cking GAY, he is an ass bandit, just like other music greats. Elton John, Freddy merc. Blah Blah Blah!!! And just be done with it. Prince don't care, I don't care, and niether should you.

Maybe a bad idea. Or, compare his list of girlfriends to his list of boyfriends. Prince does and says whatever he wants. Why would someone with those kinds of balls hide being gay? I'd be dissapointed if he was too scared to say, The Prince I know ain't scared of sh.t.

That is a pretty good idea, haha... sure... I'll carry that proof list along with my Prince inspired-novel and the questions I'll ask him if I happen to run into him I'd love to talk about Prince, but I can't tolerate him not being viewed in the best light possible... people turn things around and make him out to be some kind of freak... that's not what I see... and I'm not the most persuasive person I'm disfunctional as a supporter in spreading The Word about Prince that's the biggest drawback of being a supporter of Prince to begin with. In my case anyways had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

It's always worth having a couple of CDR's with some good Prince tunes on for people.
I've had calls before asking what album a song was from. It is possible to turn an ardent prince non-liker into a fluffy fam sheep.

I try to ignore it, but it makes me sad to see how ignorant people are. that reminds me of when i was 13/14 in ireland, had the big purple rain poster on my bedroom wall, and my uncle in law saw it, grinned at me and said prince is a N...., I remember thinking what does that mean, then i looked at the poster and realised Prince was black, up to that moment it had never really dawned on me, but that is life I guess, ignorance breeds ignorance If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

Just a few months ago I mentioned Prince to some colleagues and their first reaction was "He's gay". I said, "Well, for a gay guy he's fucked some sexy bitches". That shut them right up. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

First off, it's an incredibly ignorant and immature thing to say about a person.
Second, it's easy to see why people suspect that Prince is, at the very least, bi. Here's someone who has spent the bulk of his career in women's clothing and makeup and singing in a "high voice." Prince grew up in a somewhat religious -- though apparently unstable -- home and continues affiliate with a faith that certainly doesn't publicly endorse a liberal sexual point of view. So, it's not a stretch for people -- regardless of their familiarity or unfamiliarity of their work -- to consider him, at least, a closeted gay man. What I've never understood is the reaction of some of his fans to defend him and to even say that he's not gay. We really don't know.

"am i black, am i white?..am i straight or am i gay??" and it seems odd that all people can do is focus on that. and then to boot people start judging ME because i love the man and his music! what is that?!! what so now im not cool because i listen to prince and not f***in rap=crap!! oh lawd! its funny b/c just yesterday i said to one a my friends that i have NEVER met anyone who is as big a prince fan as i. only here on the fan sites. its so lonely here where i live in california. no one shares the passion i have for his music and talent. no one else to sing along to his songs with...no one else to listen to his music with....grrr! Peace, Love, and some Purple Rain!!

I wonder what Prince thinks of people who think of him as this musical genius who's an enigma wrapped in a riddle... does he think we're making too much of him? Does he think we're thinking too much and saying he's more than he is? Prince will probably just say to that, "I'm just a man who loves to make music and loves music. In fact, I am music. There's all there is to know." Prince really does raise a lot of questions. Makes me wonder if any other person on this planet can make us raise so many questions. If the ignorants (my term for people just like this who say the title of this thread and then some) would take the time to get to know his music the way we all have... they'd eventually drop their prejudices and cruel words and start to embrace him the way we all do. But because of how the media protrays him and because he is out of the ordinary, it's just sad that so many people aren't willing to give him that chance. Prince can surprise you on a daily basis, that's something the ignorants will never know/enjoy had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone
