"Darling Nikki" 23 Years Later... I was eleven years old in '84. My younger sisters and I used to play the Purple Rain album constantly at home, in the car...How could my mother and father not know that the lyrics to "Darling Nikki" were sexually explicit? My father should have known. He was a big fan of "When Doves Cry". Maybe they knew but thought we were too young or naive to understand. Believe me, I understood...How do you feel about "Darling Nikki" 23 years later?

I first discovered it back in March around spring break...when I saw Purple Rain the first time all the way through.
haha... I was bracing myself for this one cuz I heard it was terribly nasty. I was already kinda on edge when they started "Computer Blue"... I thought that was it... but when he did "Darling Nikki"... I'm not sure if I was shocked or horrified, ![]() After the first couple of times, though, I've relished in the glory of its nastyness... and it always makes me laugh. ![]() had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. I was expecting worse, to be honest. Based of what I heard I thought it was some horrible, raunchy, verbal porn. It's not as nasty, really.

I always liked the song. For my age, at the time, it never bothered me, Yet, I saw how a shy crowd of music listeners labeled him at that point, that may never have seen it coming from previous records they may never have purchased...However, I strongly believe, that one word could be changed for future listeners....
I'd substitute, the word fascinated, for masterbating. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

I think my aunt bought PR for me maybe 2-3 years ago as a present and took the parental advisory sticker off of it... I'm glad she did that ![]()

The same as I felt when I first heard it. It's still a good song. Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.
