LOVED IT! ![]() Who loves this song? And who, not so much? And why, or why not? I love the song because it's heartfelt and sincere. And the bit in the video where he says he's missed nothing except the time, and taps on his ring finger at the same time... very touching, given what was coming up for him in life. I love the second disc of Emancipation, period. Emale, Curious Child (fun to play on mandolin) and especially the first track, "Sex in the Summer;" it's very positive and tragic at the same time (given that you hear the heartbeat of his unborn child in it) and there's a beautiful utopian vision of paradise midway through, about an end to suffering and every disease. Go get it!! I'm making a lot of recommendations today, eh? ![]()

like it a lot. love the vocals. it borders on cheesy in a few lines
but it's honest and sincere, as someone else mentioned before and i think that redeems any cheese. the guitar at the end is great! and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I love this song. Especially when he sings: "When I see that picture on the wall, the one I stare at and nothing at all'. It always gives me goosebumps.

I like this song, it's very spiritual. Have you seen the video?
I often wonder if he wrote the song from personal experience, or from observing others. I didn't think he was ever a big drinker.

I love this song. It's beautiful to me. It's a really heartfelt combination of religious and romantic themes. Great solo at the end too.

One of my favourite songs. I was switching radio channels when I first came across it and found it quite moving. Went and bought the very next day. I need to give more of a listen to the rest Emancipation though.

Actually darrenj, the video is what moved me to start this thread. ![]() ![]() ![]() ddsummer: I'll have to listen for the cry at the end. If he cries in this song, then maybe it is truly a personal song for him since he is a very spiritual person. I have to thank peaceandlovecowgirl again for the recommendation because this is a find for me!

Actually I noticed that too. I wonder why he blends the two together? And what exactly is the Holy River? Does anyone know?

That song is simply beautiul, the lyrics mostly 'people say they love you when they wanna help but how can they when you can't help yourself' and 'relationships based on the physical are over and done I'd rather have fun with only one' and that great guitar part, when that guitar kicks in it sounds great ![]() Regardless of whether the lyrics now apply to his life, they did then and were meant, thats what counts to me the raw emotion in the song. ![]()

I get bits and pieces because while I'm fascinated with one saying, I'm already not listening to what else he sung. ![]()

Maybe this is the reason why the song is compared to Anna Stecia in the Emancipation cd booklet? I've always wondered what that was about. I wish there had been more songs like this on Emancipation. I know it's rude, she's a dude, but all I want is easy action baby! -Marc Bolan

This is absolutely one of my favorite songs by Prince... ![]() "When I see that picture up on the wall, one eye staring at nothing at all" This is in reference to his painting of his eyes on a huge scale at Paisley Park. The painting was right at the entrance of PP and can be seen in the Oprah Interview. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

There's other paintings of eyes at PP too. It looks like a cool place!

Great song, especially when it comes to the vocal delivery (combined with the lyrics).
Prince has rarely sounded as sincere as on this song. But i have one problem with it: the semi-classical guitar notes at the end of the song (AFTER the solo) sound way to forced and rational. A shame he finished a great song on such a note.

I noticed the shot of the 'eye' on the wall, so this must have been filmed at Paisley Park then. What is the significance of this eye on the wall though? Just curious...

LOVED IT! ![]() Who loves this song? And who, not so much? And why, or why not? love it because it's sincere and honest he used to talk this way a lot back then and it's pre-jw beliefs for in the song he mentions God's name Jesus TRUTH

one of my favorites. the lyrics are kind of wordy, you know. like he rhymes the same words alot. just the passion and sincerity in his performance make it work. that guitar solo at the end, classic. one song i'd love to see him do live. For all time I am with you, you are with me.
