Prince doing songs that remind you of other favourite artists of you? The funny thing with Princes music is that its so eclectic, that sometimes a song reminds you a lot of other artists you adore.
I am not talking about the obvious "James Brown, George Clinton, Sly Stone, Jimi Hendrix" like-moments, but about more surprising ones. Here are my picks: Dinner with Dolores - guitararpeggio's that remind me a lot of R.E.M., one of my favourite pop-rockbands. Or was it "The Byrds" that inspired him? I will - the jazzy, freeflowing instrumental parts reminds me a lot of Van Morrison during his "celtic jazz" moments (Astral Weeks, No Guru, no method, no teacher). well...
i was listening to 'Incense and Candles' and some parts sound like T-Pain .. why? cause T-Pain is making his career (and other artists do it too to enhance their voices in the studio) out of monopolizing that computer sample on his voice.. and Prince does this in this song.. | |

Let's Go Crazy always reminds me of Greg Brady as Johnny Bravo.
But that's not so much based on the music as it is on the jacket he wore in that video. | |

i'm loving the live Chaos & Disorder jam 2day!
VERY classy 
however, i had this weird throwback episode this morning when i first heard it. i know it's 2 dreadful 2 suggest but it seemed almost zz top - esque. 
obviously C & D = sofisticationnn BUT it took me back 2 a memory at school... I remember one breaktime it was raining, & we couldn’t go outside. my friends & I threw on ‘zz top, she’s got legs’. We hitched what were long skirts up as far as we could & sang in2 our hairbrushes! We were having a ball until one of the nuns came in & caught us..(it was a convent school) She went absolutely loopy & all 7 of us were excluded 4 2 weeks. I’m not kidding. In memory of our collective badness I would die & visit heaven if p covered tht song

When Prince sings, "So there it is - 4 all 2 c. Now what's beyond u and me. Depends my friends primarily. On how u view ur roll in Eternity." on "Muse 2 The Pharaoh"; it reminds me of Schoolhouse Rock...
