The O2 shows ended two months ago. Did you just get the boots?

Oh, I had most the boots like months ago, except two aftershow. I got one as one huge MP3, so I edited it down into seperate songs.

When doing that it just hits you; horns, horns, horns, jam, jam, jam, Maceo, Maceo, Maceo, Shelby, Shelby, Shelby, TURN AROUND, TURN AROUND TURN AROUND.

It gets tiring. And if I am correct I kinda cut fams wooting for the O2 short by proclaiming it commercial fodder, aimed at half-baked fans. GImme back the no-hits attitude of the Gold Experience tour ANY time.

Or, like, something new. I mean, I know Prince can jam, like, endlessly. If you do it all of the time, it gets boring quickly and I have been bored with this musical regurgitation ever since Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic/Musicology.

yawn

I wish he would have take N.E.W.S. to stage, damnit. Even though it's got horns, it uses horns in another way than a 'wonderful world' muzak fodder.

I love John.
I love Wynton.
I love Maceo.
I love Mike.

Bring on the horns Prince. Funk without horns is not funky.

02 shows I have seen were absolutely amazing btw.

I ain't saying I ain't liking horns, just the way Prince seems not to be able to make music without them anymore.

And o2? To each their own, I suppose.

horns get annoying

I like the horns on some songs. But I have to agree with you. I was gonna say that horns sometimes get annoying when they get over used, I mean horns on every song live. It's time for something else.

Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

Totally agree. I hate "Let's go crazy" with horns. Spoils the whole song... but that seems to be the way he likes to perform it now. sigh

I had a ball at the O2 - love the horns, And there was nothing wrong with Something In The Water... when he played it biggrin

Oh, and he IS old, but that's cool - he was young once, and I was there then too biggrin

Preach!!!

The world is coming to an end surely...the one thing you constantly hear on the org are complaints about today's music and how over produced it is. Now Prince goes out and remedies that by eschewing synth and programmed drum beats for real musicians with real instruments and you guys want him to become Timbaland! Take ur pick - turntable or a band? remember that little number? The live instruments, horns, and the resurgence of he's guitar (not really like it ever went anywhere) is the main reason why he is the most respected and sought after performer in these over produced hornless days of ours. Not even impressed anymore you guys are use to it.Ben shut her down the Org has finally gone mad!!!!!

By the way this is THE best thread I have seen on the Org in months!!! Props and Pounds to all involved cool

Gold Experience tour....Den Bosch...Paradiso aftershow..those were the days..you make me reminisce. touched fuse thumbs up! drooling clapping worship excited cloud9

Ain´t nothing wrong with a bit of horns here and there, but I totally feel where you´re coming from.
A little bit of rawness á la Aug.1983 First Ave. or Bataclan 2002 or Nighttown 2002 would be much appreciated. Some raw rock stuff..or some deep ass MPLS Funk , synth heavy and all. Comparing that to Timbaland is insane, Prince is the master of the early 80´s synth funk.
What makes this so sad is that we all know he CAN still come up with what we like, it´s still there and shines through every couple of years.

Great thread !

I like the horns...sometimes. I think he should only use them on songs that actually had them to begin with, like housequake, slow love, etc. But now he's putting them into almost every song. Like ppl already said, horns on lets go crazy and controversy??? hmm Next thing you know, he's gonna be putting horns in Computer Blue and Bambi!! eek
chill..prince doesnt like men being front row, makes it hard to sing the ballads

Thing is, I looooove variation; I love new arrangements. Other thing is, that with the commercialism of the O2 and the musicology shows, the horns become a tat overwhelming.

Actually, of the three shows I have seen, the best bit actually was all about the horns. I loved the way Prince was grooving to it, but this was an aftershow and one of the few moments in that particular show the jamming took off and brought the music to a higher level, something that gets lost in the amounts of jamming these days; song crafting.

Interesting how heavy the support is for less horn based funk jamming. In the end Prince just plays the music he enjoys most, which includes a load of covers and horns. Its upto us to just get pieces of enjoyment from what we're given.

Prince sounds old because he has musician in his band that actually play music(horns)??! Shit!..Well I'm not saying you guys are wrong for saying that it true, I guess the new school creates music strictly with a computers. May come a point when guitars, drums and bass are out dated!

With that being said I would also like to see Prince explore new music, new production, and explore new philosophy. It's all up2 P.

Hmm.. the reality is at this rate I would much rather see Crystal Ball 2 or some recordings from the Vault Vs. new shit.
