Wasn't that 12' version a little difficult to get through the door let alone play on the turntable?

It was track 2 to The Arms Of Orion. I have it on 3" cd single. Yes 3". You had to have an adapter to play in on some cd players. When I first heard it it blew me away. I didn't how how to take it. Then on second play I just loved it and still do to this day. Such a hidden gem.
Looking for a new man. Freaks need not apply. Freeeks can tho ;-p

I have never heard the 12-inch version, but it is indeed a little gem (very funky, but poppy also, melodywise).

I often consider the "camille-period" (1987 - 1989) as a sort of rennaissance of the electofunk-days of 1999. And this song is sure proof of it.

I also love the sax-playing of Candy on it, such simple lines, but so effective in the overall arrangement of the song.

The long version was hard to get if you were living in the USA. I believe it was only available on European releases. I have it on the German 12" and the UK 12" picture disc.Great track. If I recall correctly, I first heard it on a bootleg as a medley with an early version of "Irresistible bitch".

falloff
Maybe it was the hinged 12' that played at 6 rpm?

to me 'feel u up' is just pure prince at his best. totally funky and totally different from anyone else....everything about it is just pure class.

Great track, top melody and hook and interesting production.

if only he could put a track out like this now, my faith would be restored, but I'm resigned to think he never will. shame.

Eric Leeds is on Sax, Candy didn't show up until 1988 and played on Partyman.

Well, Feel U Up was released as a single / 12-inch in 1989, and i have it as a single-cd with the liner notes saying: Saxophone - Candy Dulfer.

The single was 'Partyman', on which Candy does play saxophone. The accompanying track / B-side was the older 'Feel U Up' which pre-dated Candy's involvement with Prince.

The recording released in 1989 and subsequently featured on the 'Hits / The B Sides' dates from 1986 and was to have been included on the Camille album, around two years before he met Candy Dulfer.

So ... yes, if they suggest that she plays on 'Feel U Up' as opposed to 'Partyman'.
