Wow thanks you guys, I like you too Giovanni....
Genesia, after working in in a store (that offers over 43 different styles on shirt collars alone, 17 measurements on a shirt and whole lotta more for trousers) that had me working with men like Martin Greenfield and Gonzalo (from NYC), I gained a complete newfound love and respect for any well made suit, GOD I miss that job! You write about clothing for a living?....How fun!

pplrain...These were all "high-end" suits so a lot of athletes used to get measured....in their undies.....and I was the only woman working in the store, can you imagine yourself putting your hands all over some one like Alex Rodriguez to measure him.... "SO, sir I see that you dress to the left, I'll have to add more fabric to accommodate more movement and comfort" lol Ya'll don't understand, men can be soo beautiful razz

It's fun most of the time. I primarily write about women's clothing. I'm a writer by training, but I've also been sewing for well over 30 years -- so when I hear terms like "besom" or "bi-swing back," I go all drool lol

A few weeks ago, Donald Driver (wide receiver for the Green Bay Packers) was at our company for a meeting. One of my friends in another part of the building emailed me to say that he had just stepped out of a limo wearing a suit that was clearly not made by the company we work for. lol He had on a charcoal gray frock coated suit with an orchid shirt and tie.

Unfortunately, I didn't get close enough to him to be able to tell which way he "dresses." disbelief lol

I loved our swatch books, and even got to get Gonzalo to measure me for my own suit.....fine 120s worsted cashmire blended wool, that suit was worth 5,700.00 at the time and I got it for free! At the store we would do all the fun stuff, fabric choice, style choice, measurements then we would send the info to one of our two factories to get them made... turnaround time was 4-6 months, and sometimes they went through extra fittings depending on how the fabric fell, so I got to see my customers a lot and got pretty close to them...if their wives weren't with them lol

It was the ultimate "golddigger" job... not that I went there, but sometimes I really wanted to.
what a cool job.

It was the ultimate "golddigger" job, but I didn't go there with it, although I must say, I was REALLY tempted to on a few occasions biggrin

Damn. I was just in Boston 2 weeks ago...

What area R U in?

By the way, my Grandfather was a tailor in NYC back in the day, when he came 2 America. He ended up specializing in larger sized women, and worked at Lane Bryant in the '20s.

When is your Birthday? Mine is May 13th.

So how's the skunk smell now?

Did the solution spray beat it down entirely?

Butta, dripping all over the place! Why can't they have a store that makes custom trousers for women? I'd be first in line!

I wish to heaven they did!

Do you get Threads magazine? They did an article a couple issues ago on copying your favorite pair of pants (without ripping the pants apart to make a pattern). I have a pair of casual pants that would translate nicely to wool -- and I'm going to give it a try after the holidays. cool

no, but I'll get a subscription now... I'm a landscape designer and only have Garden mags... but my buddy bought me a sewing machine for my birthday, and I just started my sewing again.... sucks I forgot so much, its been several years since I made anything.

Great idea about sewing after the holidays... I think I will the same, time to visit the fabric stores... God I have to go to NY!

So you're a Southie, eh? All good.
I don't have anything of my Grandfathers, unfortunately.
YOU'RE A TAURUS 2 ??? Taurean Women R sexy also... and sensual.
That stinks about the smell and your asthma... Omega 3 oils, found in most fish, R good 4 asthma, as well as Vitamins C, B6, and B12.
I can't help U with the Coyotes, though there R quite a few here in upstate NY, believe it or not.

That's too bad, do you know if any other family member has any of his stuff?
I simply adore the construction of vintage clothing, esp. from the 20s-40s.

Thank you very much! I should be dubbed as his daughter b/c a lot of people say I always looked like him...

and clapping for all you people who love to sew b/c I always sewn my whole life and even graduated in apparel design and merchandise. After my struggle, I vowed that I'll never make another suit again! Unless it's for Prince only! cool I haven't made one since 2003...It was made of red raw silk and I'm sure Prince can fit it...I made it for myself... worship to all people who are in the clothing industry!
