TRIVIA cool

NPG Enhanced CD Cover
"Cinnamon Girl" is a song by Prince, from his 2004 album Musicology. Besides the title, there is no connection to the song of the same name by Neil Young.

The single has been released in multiple formats. On September 6th 2004, the European CD-single was released with 4 tracks: "Cinnamon Girl" (Album version), "Dear Mr. Man" (live at Webster Hall) "United States of Division" (which was previously available only as a download) and an MPEG format video of the "Dear Mr. Man" performance. Two weeks later, a similar single was released, but without the video. In November of the same year, Prince's NPG online retail store sold an Enhanced CD including the audio track, its music video, the lyrics and a 5-minute segment of interviews and behind-the-scenes footage.

The video for the song has generated controversy, especially from conservatives in the United States. In the video a Muslim girl (played by New Zealand actress Keisha Castle-Hughes) is depicted as being victimized following the 9/11 Attacks and then dreaming of blowing up an airport with a bomb. While the New York Post described the video as the most tasteless ever, the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee has praised the video for bringing attention to the discrimination faced by Arab-Americans since 9/11.

cool I like the music video.

TRIVIA cool
"I Wanna Be Your Lover" was Prince's first big hit, getting him frequent R&B airplay and chart success. It is from his second album Prince, released in 1979. It spent two weeks at #1 on the R&B singles chart in December 1979, and peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The song is rumored to have been written about singer Patrice Rushen, whom Prince had a crush on at the time. The song explains that although he may not be as financially successful as other men, he will please her like no other.

Musically, the track is pop-funk with a prominent bass guitar and synthesizers. The track opens with a guitar serving a percussion role and the keyboard riff from the chorus. The extended coda (also on the album) is a funk instrumental.

The B-side of the track was from his previous album For You, "My Love Is Forever" in the US. However, in the UK, the B-side was "Just as Long as We're Together", also from For You. This was Prince's debut single in the UK. It charted together with "Sexy Dancer" on the U.S Hot Dance Club Play chart, where it reach number two. The song was covered by Irish boyband Zoo.

"I Wanna Be Your Lover" can be heard in the background at the Bada Bing in The Sopranos episode "The Second Coming".

The song was also used at the start of the film Are We There Yet?

DELIRIOUS duncewackynutty

Again, the remaster version from Ultimate. wink

B-side "Horny Toad"
Released 17 August 1983
Format 7" single
Recorded Sunset Sound & Minneapolis, 1982
Genre Pop, Rock
Length 7" edit: 2:38, Album: 3:56
Label Warner Bros. Records
Writer Prince
Producer Prince

TRIVIA cool
"Delirious" is a song from Prince's 1982 album, 1999. It was the album's third single, and Prince's second top-10 hit, reaching #8 in the U.S.. The success of the single was boosted by the runaway success of the previous single, "Little Red Corvette", and also due to the fact that DJs often played the first three album tracks in sequence, which just happened to be the order of the singles released from the album.

"Delirious" is a standard 12-bar blues number that tells how Prince is being driven crazy by a beautiful woman. The song teases the listener with sexual metaphors, hidden enough to avoid being censored. The track begins with a trademark Linn drum machine loop and a bit of synth bass before the keyboard hook introduces the song. A rubbery bass guitar gives the track a rockabilly feel, which Prince had experimented earlier on "Jack U Off" from Controversy. The track ends suddenly with the sound effect of a baby cooing. In live performances over the years, Prince would later add live horns to the song, making it into more of a swing number. The 7" single release of the song included a poster bag with a 1983 calendar and images of Prince.

The baby cooing sound effect used at the very end of "Delirious" was sampled for the 1998 Aaliyah song "Are You That Somebody?".
The B-side to the track is "Horny Toad", which is very similar in rockabilly style and instrumentation. Some of the sexually charged lyrics were mistakenly interpreted as sadistic at the time and were the source of some controversy. The track was included on The Hits/The B-Sides in 1993.

THE WORK music

B-side "U Make My Sun Shine"
Released October 2001
Format CD single, Digital single
Recorded Paisley Park Studios, Summer 2000-April 2001
Genre Funk
Length 3:39
Label Redline Entertainment/NPG Records
Writer Prince
Producer Prince

TRIVIA cool
"The Work, pt. 1" is a song written by Prince in 2001 and the debut single for his album The Rainbow Children. The song is an obvious homage to James Brown in both delivery and in title (Brown was known to release songs in multiple parts). The track is pure funk with Prince performing in falsetto and backing vocals by Kip Blackshire and girl group Milenia.

The lyrics of "The Work, pt. 1" speak of inequality and battles racism, which is the overall theme of The Rainbow Children. Some have also theorized the song is about spreading the news of the Jehovah's Witnesses, due to a spoken passage that directly precedes the song on the album. This would also explain the "pt. 1", implying that this is only the first part of the endless "work" to be done.

"The Work, pt. 1" was originally released as a downloadable single before later being released on CD as a single and later on The Rainbow Children. The downloadable single contains a section with some different lyrics and instrumentation than the later CD-single and album versions. There has been no "part 2" released to date, although the title track to the 2004 album Musicology bears a strong resemblance and some fans have dubbed it "The Work, pt 2". The B-side on the CD-single was the previously released, "U Make My Sun Shine".

Released 2 July 1986
Format 7" single, 12" single
Recorded Washington Avenue Warehouse (Mpls.) and Sunset Sound, 1985
Genre Pop, funk
Length 7" edit: 3:23, Album: 3:58, 12 extended version": 7:52
Label Paisley Park Records
Writer Prince
Producer Prince

TRIVIA cool
"Anotherloverholenyohead" is a 1986 song by Prince and the Revolution, from the album Parade, the soundtrack to the film Under The Cherry Moon. The song is essentially a solo performance by Prince but with backing vocals from Susannah Melvoin (Prince was romantically linked to Susannah at the time the two had recorded this song about a couple in the midst of relationship problems) and the horn section of Eric Leeds and Atlanta Bliss. The song also features a string arrangement by Clare Fischer. The song is set in a minor key, and written around a piano chord sequence, although the arrangement emphasises an upfront guitar synth and a drum machine. The lyrics are about a man trying to reclaim a lover who is intent on leaving him for another. The single received a 12" extended release with intricate piano work and some dance commands from Prince.

The B-side was the LP version of "Girls & Boys" in the U.S., but since that was already released as a single on its own in the UK, the B-side there was "I Wanna Be Your Lover" from 1979's Prince.

However, despite a large amount of publicity provided by its predecessors and the film Under the Cherry Moon, the single stalled on the charts in both the UK and the U.S.
