I was thiiiiis close to buying the new Prince book, but...

I almost bought the new book called A Thief in the Temple, but I changed my mind at the last minute, because it simply looked a little scarce. Has anyone read this? Is it worth the purchase and read?

I read a bunch of Prince books over the years and some were well-written and some were not. The most recent I read was called POSSESSED and it was very engaging and interesting.

Compared to Possessed, the new book seems a little generic, but of course you can't judge a book by it's cover.

Any thoughts?

Just somebody else trying to make money off of Prince's story, if you've read one you've kind of read them all, I wouldn't buy it confused

True!!!

I'm really not interested if it's not Prince writing the book himself!

I brought the book, because I buy everything.

If you have read others, you'll probably be disappointed. Nothing new here.

I like the illustrated books the best, although they are hard to find.

Save your money, the author's organizational skills are poor, his writing is detached and it reads as if all of his info is third hand.

There's a few nice pics though.

There were some good Prince books - A Pop Life, anything by Per Nilsen, but, by and large the rest are cut and paste jobs. writing about prince is a bit like writing about Sinatra or miles Davis. They've led such full, colorful, occasionally controversial lives that you can either write about the life and touch on the music, or you can focus on the music and its creation and touch on the life.
There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

The book is lame, I read the entire thing in 15 minutes at the bookstore. There was no new info in there, the author put no real effort into getting some new thoughts, ideas, etc. IMHO

per nilsen's book is a good one - one of the better music biography reads I've ever come across. He's a real journalist, did a lot of ground work and had some genuinely interesting insights on Prince and his music.
