Emancipation Disc III

The Emancipation disc III could have been a huge hit as a stand alone album. Does anyone agree with this statement? If u are struggling with this go litsen to "Da Da Da" "Love we make" or "Style" before u answer..

How could U think that I could put something inside of someone that I put inside U? Even if I tried 2.. I couldn’t cuz I still smell like the last time that we ... Loving U is a waste of time

I sort of agree . . .

I think 1996 was the right time for Prince to release a "techno" CD. He hinted at it with the original version of Come and the album version of "Loose".

I think a whole CD of songs like New World and The Human Body would've been cool.

In one of the interviews I saw he said Emancipation had about eighteen singles but he only released three if I remember right. I wonder why??? I'm not sure 18 is the right number, but I do love Sleep Around and Human Body...

because EMI america folded shortly after the release of the album. the plan was to release 18 singles in a 2 year marketing campaign, and each song on the album would appear on a single, either as an a-side, double a-side, or a b-side.

I don't believe he could have pulled that off. I think only about 6 or 7 tracks were suitable for single release.
After the first two he could have released Sex In The Summer, Sleep Around, My Computer and The Love We Make.
I doubt any of the other tracks would have made much noise at radio.

Well I don't think ANYONE thought he could pull that off wink EMI or no EMI, Prince's attention span for a project doesn't last very long. Hell, by the time his albums hit the shelves these days, he's already done promoting them lol

Yeah, I do actually remember him saying that there were at least 18 singles on the album. Oh, how I laughed. lol

oh god! that's practically the worst track. he butchered such a beautiful song by sexing it up and putting that cheesy beat to it.

nod Disc 3 rules, but like the rest of the album, there are a couple of cringe trax that let it down...

I like the tracks okay, but I don't get any kind of unified vibe from this disc.

It's like it should be the wild free dance disc, but then why is Lalala means I love you on it? And why is someone else's single on it (Da Da Da)? And why does Emancipation sound so bound?

Yes, EMI folded very soon after Emancipation was released. It kinda fell through the cracks at that point.

Same thing happened with Rave . . . Prince teamed up with Clive Davis at Arista, and then he left shortly thereafter. That album didn't last long either (and had a lot of radio potential IMHO).

Each disc could have been a stand alone album.

I remember when I put Emancipation on my IPOD disc 2 listed the artist as the "symbol" moniker instead of Prince.

I always wondered if disc two was suppose to be its own album. Disc 1 & 3 loaded as Prince for the artist.

Smillan

I think Disc 3 is the strongest of the lot (IMO) but as an actual album on its own? I think there are a few fillers and not enough killers. Having recorded all of these songs, I think Prince missed a great opportunity to have a BIG album saleswise but only if he had picked the best songs off the other two discs and released Emancipation as one CD. It would have proved so much against Warner if it had been a number one album.

Maybe he got a bit big headed and thought everyone would love all of these songs are maybe it was just to show everyone that he can do what he wants and doesn't care what people may think.

ironically, it was originally supposed to be 4 discs, 48 tracks. even more ironically, most of the outtakes are better than half the songs that made the album.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
