LOS ANGELES - Sony BMG Music Entertainment has inked a licensing deal with Yahoo Inc. that clears the way for people to upload files with music or video content by the record company's artists to Yahoo, the companies said Tuesday. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Like similar deals, the agreement calls for Sony BMG to receive a cut of advertising revenue, Yahoo said. The deal also covers the distribution of music videos via Yahoo player applications and widgets that computer users can place on other Web sites. The agreement marks the first time Sunnyvale-based Yahoo has reached a deal with a major recording company over licensing content in user-created videos. Sony BMG, home to recording artists such as Britney Spears, Bruce Springsteen and Slayer, reached a similar licensing deal with Google Inc. last year. That agreement also includes Google subsidiary YouTube. Sony BMG is a joint venture of Sony Corp. and Bertelsmann AG. The Sony BMG-Yahoo deal reflects the popularity of computer user-created videos, which often include copyrighted content. Last month, a coalition of major media and Internet companies issued a set of guidelines requiring Web portals that host user-generated videos — as Yahoo does — to use filtering technology to block clips with unauthorized content from being posted. Independently, Yahoo is deploying video identification and filtering technology early next year, the company said. ***** I pretty sure it won't be long before the other record labels follow suit and start implementing similar practices. I can't stand this MAN... he's annoying...
I SERIOUSLY hope that any music or anything else he does fails..... I don't wish this old selfish man any success.... he is stingy and stupid.... incase he didn't realize.... places like youtube promote artist... I didn't even know about some of his stuff.. until i stumbled on youtube.... and im still not impresed by him... and you know what... his old stuff was better.... and his new stuff needs all the free promotion it can get on youtube.... seriously i don't know how anyone can be a fan.... what next... is he going to sue someone for buying his album and playing it in their car

Prince isn't going to win this battle because the record companies are starting to see that they couldn't win it either so instead of continuing pissing off the very people that buy their products...which is moronic...eh hmmm... they are finding ways to let progression continue and still make money for themselves and hopefully the artists they represent. Of course, that last part at this point remains to be seen because of course we know how the record companies do the artists. However, the artists themselves also have the opportunity to embrace the changes in the way they deal with their fans and reap their own benefits. | |

I am a person that supports what PFU is attempting to accomplish and that is a functioning relationship as a fansite as it relates to the artist known as Prince.
