BLinded? My Soap-Box

I'm going to probably get a lot of flak for this, but it is my opinion that a LOT of fans are totally blinded by Prince and seem to think that he can do NO wrong, and he only puts out wonderful music of which the mainstream world doesn't seem to get.
Perception is reality.
and I percieve that a lot of his "fans" are truly blinded. True, everyone is entitled to their personal music tastes, but I think that it is truly sheep-like (and just plain stupid) to think that EVERYTHING he does is a God-send and that he is the most wonderful person in the world.
I say these things, because when one person has anything negative to say about him or his music, there are all these die-hards who are quick to put that person down or insult their intelligence when they are just trying to be objective or make a point.
This is a free country, and even the most die hard fans are entitled to say something that isn't so great about their favorite artist without fear.

Totally agree, but I think it is something deeper than that, a thing called adoration, but to fight against it here, only causes trouble, as there is basically nothing called constructive criticism or objectiveness here, or rarely at least wink
If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

Prince fandom, like life, involves a lot of the yin and the yang.

You have Prince fans--which is a huge spectrum of people. tastes, and opinions.

On one end you have those that feel that Prince is a god and can do no wrong--artistically and personally.

Then, on the other end of the spectrum, you have those who are constantly pissing one everything Prince has done since 198whatever.

Different strokes, so what's the problem?

Can he do worng? Yes.

Eh.. Some of these angry folks are too over-the-top though..

Nobody's clean and innocent here.. What's Prince is Prince's.

If you really want to show him something. Shut the sites down without a fight!
Do it! Prove that you don't need him to meet friends and associates by networking on these sites. I think this PFunk thing caused an uproar because Prince mentioned that these sites have created a network for people to promote themselves, and that they ought to be grateful, and not as spiteful.

Still, a court case would be interesting to see on some of these entertainment shows. I want to see what happens, and what is presented in court.

These sites should not close down to appease Prince's ego! I do feel however, that him, his name, his likeness and anything else relating to him should be banished from these sites altogether!

He's the one that should be grateful for these sites, not the other way around! So it's high time he gets reminded of what life is like without the support and benefit of having such a large, loyal, dedicated fan base!

And what ever happened to respect?

None of us human beings is better or more important than another one. If I don't call Prince names, it's because I don't call any of my real-life associates names either.

Prince is my spiritual brother cool (given that he is a Witness). Other than that, I don't even know the man personally... but the fact remains that Prince is an older man in relation to me, Larry Graham even more so, so it's very jarring to see how much young people disrespect them. Is it a lack of home-training, or are their hearts outing their hate-filled real inner selves? Do they really hate others, or hate themselves and take it out on others?

You tell me...

Yes, some do adore Prince to the point of blindness, stupid sheep they maybe.

It’s a power trip for some, (small cock syndrone) I,ve seen it time and time again, grown men tearing the hearts out of young women. Bullying and intimidating them to the point of leaving the site.

Is that what Prince wants?

Is anyone really that surprised he is taking the action he is?

It’s good to see the stupid sheep not taking your shit anymore!

I do put Prince on a musical pedestal and love hime as a friend.
I've never had a problem with people that critique constructively...
Some folx just vent their personal insults instead of being mature about something they don't like.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Some like Prince and some don't. I don't really care either way. I personally like Prince but I prefer to listen to his older songs as opposed to some of his newer songs.

Just kidding.....I agree with you. But I know a lot of these people will admit to a few songs of his that they don't like. It depends on how you word it around here. You have to make sure everything is written as your opinion and not as fact.

I had this one chick (I won't name names) that used to follow my posts. If I said something about my opinion on a song of his, whether good or bad, she would imply that my OPINION was wrong because I didn't word it the way she would have. I eventually started ignoring her threads because of it.

I agree with what you said here but it's just as true in the opposite manner. There are people here who think Prince hasn't done anything good in nearly 20 years. They are just as "blinded" to not find at least a good song or album that's come out in that time as anyone who thinks Prince has released nothing but masterpieces throughout his entire career, so it's a two way street IMO.

I think the reason why the die-hards come after anyone who says anything negative is because the person saying the negative stuff tends to present their opinion as a fact when it's just an opinion. I don't think the attacks would be so bad if that didn't happen as much. But as long as the music and this site is around, there will always be a debate about what's good and bad. I started a thread about how glad I am that this place exists so that we can express positve and negative feelings about the music: http://prince.org/msg/7/253641. Just as long as it's respectful, then it's all good.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
