The Pirate Bay are not breaking any Swedish laws, but they may have the legal ground to strike back:

This is very similar to Metallica vs Napster, but in a sense its even worse 'cause Prince is going after sites that didn't even bootleg his music. He's so narcissistic that he just can't stand anyone else posting anything with his imagery. Little men = big ego, you dig? I really think he's lost his mind, but I still love his music, but I don't see myself supporting any future projects because when you think about it, Metallica never rebounded from their Napster fiasco. They released a garbage album titled St. Anger and pretty much disappeared off the face of the earth. Prince made a good comeback with 3121, but Planet Earth is disappointing. If he does indeed release another dope album, I'll be sure to purchase it, but for right now I'll stick with 1980-1994 Prince material, including the 3121 album and few cuts off of Musicology & Planet Earth.

Prince is the last person that is gonna ruin pirate bays day.. they will win in the end... It's just hard to believe that Prince isn't looking at the big picture here.. He really is fighting a losing battle..

What do you think will happen if Pirate bay gets shut down? you think thats the end?

Here is a perfect example of a bad plan... Oink was shut down.. then fifteen to twenty quality sites came the same day it was shut down.

Now they have made a problem harder to fix..

Im sayin their solution is wrong.. tearing down the sites is only causing them to multiply.. so.. I am correct when I say the problem is getting harder to fix.

Prince is being a complete ass about the whole thing. There are much better ways to go about protecting your work.

There are a few others i could mention, but that is our little secret cool

The day a tape recorder was invented, we all became bootleggers one way or another wink

And I personally dont think that Prince is after half the people they say he is after, he probably did not want those dodgy mobile phone pics & clips turning up everywhere, cant blame him for that lol
If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

Why control things like pictures and likenesses (things used in like marketing products?) in the first dang place? I can understand ?rince protecting his music but things like pictures ? I am lost in the translation on that. Shutting down sites over pictures and old content. Crazy. There is nothing sadder than a fan site without pics.
I may not like the man.
I may not like his music after the mid 90s.

I respect his current artistry...I just don't like him.

No hate.

The list of "targets" for princes misdirected ire were put out by princes representatives

Noone plucked it out of thin air

As for the "dodgy mobile phone pics" the bad news for him is he doesnt own the rights to them and is using legal thuggery to have them removed

The question you have to ask yourself is, where does it stop?

there is all kinds of people making money all kinds of ways from artists and sharing none of the money they make with those artists .....

I don't think file sharing will end .... but I do think a system needs to be put in place so artists, record labels, movie companies etc .... receive "ROYALTIES" no matter who is distributing their "Creative Works".

this is an online website that buys up the BEST seats and sells them for A LOT more to fans ..... Is that Fair ???? ..... Should they be stopped???? ....

I think ..... Fan websites in the future could also have to pay royalties to the artist they have a fan site about ....

In many ways fan websites Promote & Do distribute or connect people to distribute an Artists creative works, images, likeness and etc ....

So, maybe fans websites should have Advertisements or charge membership Fees so they can pay Royalties to the Artist they are Showcasing ....

Sounds Bizarre ..... but .... that does appear to be the direction all this legal stuff could be going ....

Fan sites do nothing more than provide a platform for people to come together and share a mutual interest

If the site distributes copyright or trademark material then it is breaking the law

From what I have seen of prince.org, it takes every reasonable precaution to prevent this and shows the level of due diligence required in law

If it has to pay "royalties" for the privilege of being a fan site its the same as paying a tax on free speech

A dangerous and slippery slope

As for your previous post on secondary ticketing, it should be regulated by law and persons/companies licensed

Thats the only way to stamp out companies like londonticketshop.co.uk that takes loads of peoples money, delivers little if anything, and is based in Hungary so its almost impossible to get it closed down under existing legislation

Sharing images is one thing... sharing someone's livelihood is something else...

I don't see how file-sharing (Napster, Pirate Bay, whatever) is any different from stealing...

You got that part right!

If fan sites should have to pay Royalties to the Artists they are paying tribute to, then artists should start paying fans to support them.

I wore a Prince t-shirt to Cedar Point a couple of years ago and I couldn't even keep count of all the people that stopped me to ask where I got it.

I got it at a concert but I told people to go to NPGMC website to order one. Do you think Prince would have a problem paying fans who advertise for him?

pirate bay is an old school moral-free warez site which has expertly positioned itself in the post-p2p environment with impressive use of propaganda.

this is more of the same propaganda. i dont believe they seriously believe they're seriously on the same level, either in terms of morality or industry impact, as napster. its just spin. what a bunch of fucking dorks
