The main ones would be

1999
Purple Rain
Sign O The Times

But forced to pick one, I would pick SOTT.

Lemme see....
one disk....
one
disk.....
hmmm

Purple Rain, maybe....?

No....
1999.
The second disk of 1999.

Oh wait,
the cd version is only on one disk.

So yeah, my answer is just 1999.

Tho-ough....
I really do enjoy the first 3 back to back songs on Controversy.
Bu-ut...
the third song is Do Me, Baby. And since that's the song that I like to play whenever I get my groove on with a sexy, I probably couldn't bear the pain of listening to it.
See, I figure that since I'd only have access to one disk, it must be cuz I'm the sole survivor of a world-wide nuclear holocaust, & therefore that's why no other music would be available to me. And if all of the rest of humanity has been wiped out, then that would mean that my chances of ever scoring again with anyone would pretty much have been dwindled down to zero. And since the odds were never in my favor under pre-apcolyptic conditions let alone under the existing hyothetical scenario, listening to Do Me, Baby would always remind me that fact. I don't think I could bear the hurt of that kind of experience.

So, I'll stick to my second answer: 1999.
However....

now that I think about it,
the title track could prove to be be too ironically painful to the situation.

So. I wanna change my answer.
Back to Purple Rain.

But.....

with all the devastation of everything everywhere,
that would mean that whatever energy source provided the power to my disc-player would be extremely limited. So, who's to say that I'd be even able to listen to the whole disk before the juice ultimately ran out? Not to mention that with all the radiation out in the atmoshere, it would probably cause so much static in the audio, I'd probably wouldn't be able make out a single note.

So, I wanna change my answer.
To Planet Earth.
Cuz maybe all the cracklin' static being emitted from my weak-force irridated disc-player would give the music the depth that I found sorely lacking in the album before the world was torn completely asunder by my fellow ig'nant, war-mongering humans beings.

However....upon further inflection,
maybe the knowledge that the disc that I was attempting to listen to was indeed titled Planet Earth may turn out to be yet another irony too bitter to swallow for one such as myself, who's will & overall mental & emotional state has been ravaged by the absolute trauma that could only result from such planet-wide annihilation.
I'd probably just end up shattering the disk in a primal soul-screaming rage, in hopes that one of the pieces would have an edge sharp enough to slit my own throat with. And as I lay there with my life torturously ebbing away, praying to Jehovah that the radiated cells of my body have not been grotesquely evolved to the point of where my corpse would re-emerge from the sweet escape of death as an atomically mutated zombie & then, as an answer to the call of base urge of propagation, end up mating with the only other possible life-forms that could have survived the long-prophesied Armageddon, a now-advanced off-shoot of upright-walking super-cockroaches. Thus beginning a new dawn of neo-bred species of which would become the master inhabitors of the shattered remains of this god-forsaken nuclear sphere of decaying world matter.

In other words,
I believe that
the query invoked at the beginning of this thread is a trick question.

Goddamn newbies.
