Prince: A Pop Life

I know Dave Hill's book has been discussed before, but this is the first time I've read it. As a matter of fact this is the first time I've read any Prince biography. I haven't yet been able to go through every single page, but as for now this book has been an extremely fascinating and fun thing to read.

What do you guys think about it? Is it the best book written about the early Prince? Parts you dislike or love...whatever you have to say, say it.

Take no offense to this, but I will speak my mind.

I could care less about his life and his personal dilemmas, I just want the music.
I never wanted to read about about him and never will. Just give us funk man!
Kick the old school joint 4 the true funk soldiers.

2. 1999
3. Dirty Mind

Cool, no problem.
I would have agreed with you a while ago but then after getting to know new people and new point of vies I came to the conclusion that it is so much more interesting to experience someone's art if you know more about who the person behind the artist is. It makes me see the songs in a different way, it makes me understand some seemingly odd decissions etcetera.
Very fascinating to me.

Do you know what year this has been published?

This book (published in 88?) is by far the best written attempt at a Prince bio.

It was published in '89.

When I was checking my copy a flyer for Controversy magazine fell out - blast from the past.

A good read. One of the better P bios. Personally I prefer DMSR- the first decade.

i like A Pop Life has some good stuff in it. I'm waiting for someone to do a "definitive" bio on Prince, combine all the info from the various books. DMSR is hard to beat, tho.
