 Among the last days of HQ's video forum, I saw the promo "The Beautiful Experience"... which featured quite a few songs from Come or were intended for the album. I heard previously that this album was supposed to be dark, angry and depressing, so I didn't want it at first. Then I heard Race, Papa, and Come, Pheromone during that promo special... all of them were really good... I was blown away and like Love4OneAnother b4 it, it convinced me to get the Come album. I think this is one of those albums that many people put in the "grower" category. And in my case, they were right. I didn't hate it at first, but I think I was very indifferent. It didn't do anything for me (except for Come and Letitgo), but I knew that it had the potential to become one of my favorites (cuz of the timing of the material)... and after 5-6 listens, I fell in love with it.  had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. Loose is as pathetic an attempt to sound relevant to a current musical fad as Jughead. I was thankful the Prince persona was dead after this release because it was evident he'd run out of ideas. Unfortunately he's risen again, found Jehovah and provided us with three of the most trite recordings of his career with Musicology, 3121 and the dreadful Planet Earth. Papa is bland? Nothing but imo. Actually it took me a few months to really appreciate Come...but like a lot of Prince albums, it needed to marinate. Now it def one my faves. | |

I commend u for that  That's something I don't hear much. It wasn't so much that I had to work really hard to like it as much as I do now because I hated it. I didn't hate it. In fact, I thought it was average, but based on others' comments, I figured it was best to wait for it to surprise me. And sho' nuff it did
Two of my favorite albums were actually ones that I had to work with for a really long time before I could get the gist of it. 1999 & The Gold Experience It makes the hard work worth it in the end... but I hate having to work with albums before I can like them inside & out  it's exhausting. Glad those days are behind me... well, for the most part. The Gold Experience was that way with me, but it's incredibly rewarding after getting into it...quite masterful really. Come doesn't shift through as many styles and is much shorter, therefore easier on my fragile, short attention span. 1999 is a long album with lengthy jams, but the songs stay in the realm of "funky grooves" which kind of has a hypnotic effect on me so it was easier to digest....once I got past the inferior 80s sound production I was humbled by its brilliance. | |

"Come" is a great album!!
I remember buying it the fisrt day it was out and was just in awe of Prince again. The album was so different and really had such cool. Love the vibe and flow.
