I tell you one thing by some of the replies on here, I guess I hit a raw nerve. I think that speaks volumes!

You made a point, but was it really necessary? Pick any fansite at random and there a contingent of folks who are waaaaay too much into the celebrity. Rolling in and stating the obvious just doesn't seem to add a whole lot, imho .

I really doubt any of the true faithful around here are gonna think "you know, she has a point! I AM putting too much into Prince! Thanks themusicthatcounts!"

Not everyone is a fanatic on here though, some pretty normal people are about

You're pissed because someone has an opinion? confused

Seems more like being pissed because someone has a condescending opinion.

Hmmm, I didn't catch that same tone. Could it be that the responder is being a little dramatic?

sure be a fan, chat with others. But looking at this site some of you comment for hours and hours on end! If youre unwell or can't go out much then ignore this, but if youre not come on guys get on with life! You all chat like you know him, its quite freaky!
Some of you won't like this post as it speaks the truth but hey we all have an opinion, I'm signing off now as going out for the day into the 'real' world. I just think some of you need to leave this site a bit more often, if I was Prince and I'm not and don't know how he'd feel as I don't know him, I would be quite freaked out by alot written on here. I can see why he wasn't happy.

Better yet, for some fans it became such an obsession to the point where when they hear the truth, they're hurting so much and turn their frustration into anger... it's called truth hurts.

good points, just this past week I went to a high school football game with the alumni, bought some new books at the book fair, had some family over for dinner and saw my sweet Denzel on the big screen...then raised some $$ for a kid who needs an operation.

I think you're correct in assuming that Prince would be turned off by the idolatry on here but it seems like only a few very vocal individuals. Both you and Prince should be careful not to paint with too broad a brush.

Your comments are appreciated nonetheless.
Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I think, themusicthatcounts has a point. Some people may take this site too serious.
There are peole from all walks of life, various age groups, and various nationalities here. Of course you will get everything from casual fan to dangerously obsessed fan here.
We might not agree on things all the time, but it would be nice if some posts would be a little bit more civil instead of downright hateful!
As far as newbie goes, I don't care if newbies voice their opinions here.
I've only been here for a little over 6 months.
I have been a Prince fan for 29 years, so if somebody tries to give me the 'newbie-speech' here, I simply ignore it.
I do however believe, we should be respectful to our best ability.
We sometimes get a little carried away here. wink

I agree with the base of your argument. However, I gotta wonder who you're trying to convince; other orgers or yourself? I mean to begin a thread (even the title is a no-brainer) on a topic so obivous... confuse

And I bet by your tone, your not a newbie, just a disgruntled orger of old with a new name.

Hey, that is a true statement, I agree.

I've recently had to step back and look at myself because my life was suffering (haven't been taking care of business) and remember the important things.

Although I do want to be here too the only way I can *feel connected to Prince... I just need to find balance.

( love2 Prince by the way!)

*hee hee

Hey there, cheers smile I'm not angry or trying to be patronising to people. I am actually more concerned. Not just with this Prince site, but how 'obsessed' people are in these days with celebrity, I don't think the internet helps much eh!

It just seems that people are so obsessed with every little bit of say Prince's life that they do actually think they love him. Thats their choice etc.. but what would he think about those kind of folks...

Cool! I know what you mean, I mean I probably be one of those to scare the crap outta him with my crazy, insane remarks here... confused

falloff

But I take it all in stride (and hope he understands that I'm just being a crazy nut sometimes) but I guess I know where to draw the line (at least I'm learning to). Sure I go overboard and express my love for him and obsess over him but in real life,... I know this is only the org, the internet. My real life is... not anything like this. (hey, are you Prince or one of his people by any chance checking up on us people, making sure we're sane?) hmmm

Very interesting thread, I must admit nod

Prince's music still has a huge impact on me (i.e. I enjoy it more than all the other artists I have at my disposal, which is pretty few as it is). It still makes me feel so many things at once... which ultimately combine in2 a euphoric happiness I get from few other places.
That's ultimately what his music is to me and why I always come back for more.

But it's also a window into the heart of an incredible man who's led a very interesting life. Many here are inspired by his music and also by his determination.
I came here to learn about Prince and his music from the "experts" (old-school people) so I wouldn't view him as the general public views him (a short, weird, gay musician with a huge voice). Here, I feel like people understand him and by learning from their experiences of him and his music, I can understand more about the kind of person who wrote so many beautiful songs.

In my defense, I don't post nearly as much as I used to and when its crunch time in school, that becomes my #1 priority and the most attention I'll pay to Prince is sometimes posting here and listening to an hour a day.

When the fiasco began, what I saw was several people here taking Prince's actions personally. Other than posting here less, I've been unaffected by the fiasco. In fact, I'd like to use that remark to the people taking this too seriously and/or personally... "there's more to life than Prince" so why spend so much time/energy tearing him down as if his actions were directed towards you personally?

Morale: Life is too short to mull over your anger towards one given person. Use that energy for something more constructive.
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone
