The music they're into is rap/hip-hop, garbage or alternative music. He's in neither of those categories, so they don't take notice or seem to appreciate him as one of the all-time greats. I'm all the way back here, behind the majority of the fanbase. But I've taken the time to collect and digest music from many of the years he's been around. I'll always have a certain soft spot for the current material because it's where I saw his recent appearances. But I've never, and never will exclude his older material and what made him "great" in the first place. In fact, most of my favorite albums are from the 80's (Purple Rain, 1999, Parade). His music is on a level that is not quite reached by his newest material. I just don't exclude the newest material, no matter how it comes across. I still enjoy Musicology, 3121 and Planet Earth, just for different reasons than 1999, PR and Parade. good points, all around.... I think the reason people think he hasn't done anything since Purple Rain is that for the most part, since the 90's his music hasn't stood out amongst the crowd...I simply dont understand why his music has become pigeonholed into the r&b direction that it has...minus a track here or there, his formula hasn't changed and I think thats hurt his recognition amongst non fans as an innovator... Actually, D&P and gave him some recognition. I remember hearing his songs on the radio alot and it some of them were actually played at parties and in the dorms. But he fucked it up by changing his name to a symbol

Though I like "All the midnights in the world" I just wish there would be that one song, that one instant classic....some shit that would resonate with everybody...like I said before, evrything was all good 'til Wendy got involved... I think Prince very well knows how to get folks riled over a song though. His choice of songs at the superbowl proved this. He chose classics, and white "straight" male friendly songs, and rocked the shit out of his performance. It would be a completely effortless thing for him to translate that to record. He just doesn't. I think he's trying to get a hit record on his own terms "cutting against the grain, and doing something unexpected---remember a lot of folks thought Planet Earth would reflect the tone of the Superbowl performance." Instead, we got this strange , quirky, likable but forgettable album. Well, Prince remains interesting, if not completely likable.

At least the mispronunciations would've been like, half right. Ish. @ my online mouth. HE'S COMING AGAIN

I heard "Raspberry Beret" on the radio in summer of 2003 and I liked that song, so I decided to buy "The Hits / The B-Sides" package from Barnes & Noble and that's how I became a Prince fan. It's only been 4 and 1/2 years but yet I'm still pretty young, so it seems like it's been a long time 2 me. [Edited 11/15/07 20:32pm] Stuck like glue!

...Come and Chaos and Disorder made me mad, but I still liked practically everything else and still do including Planet Earth and PFunk.2. What album or song did it for you? Sexy Dancer and Still Waiting both gave me pause. I was to young to realize what was happening but that's when I lost interest in Michael Jackson. I think I actually saw his album cover for Prince and his eyes did that hypnotize thing to me. 3. If you fell out of "fan-dom" which album or phase did that occur in?

The Rainbow children was the last interesting album, and even then I hate concept albums that are narrated. Especially with that stupid Darth Vader voice. Hell, if he had Mavis staples do the narration ala "melody cool" I would have been down with it. TRC was an experiment which had intersting moments, but not exactly the concept albums Pink Floyd's "The Wall", Rush's 2112, or Steve Wonders "Songs in the Key of Life" were. Gosh, I'm liking your take on this.

Yeah but he took seven years off "Prince's" age When he changed his name a symbol, claimed the new music was better than the forgettable "Prince" music, I was all and and By the time he changed his name back to Prince and announced it in a press conference I was all "dude, fuck off." Don't get me wrong, The Gold Experience, and some of his other output during that time was fierce as hell. I especially love the Glam Slam Miami South Beach performances. But still.... I could have done without the symbol.

I'm an idiot. Once I saw the movie, I fell in love with the music and now its one of my fav. albums. 1999 is also a must, one of my favorites as well. And The Black Album is also really good. I listened 2 it earlier actually and its a lot of fun. So, you collected 15 albums (not counting the compiliations) over 4 1/2 years? Very nice I collected just as many over the course of the past 8 months. While my folks have started to question me (my mom especially), sometimes I wonder how I didn't basically kill myself by burying myself in all this music. How'd I survive all of this good music? I basically got an album a month and haven't really stopped. And being a quick learner helps Haha... when I get Lovesexy later this year, I'll have all but one of the 80's albums That certainly wasn't my attention... just happened, but hard to argue. After listening to TBA ("When 2 R in Love" especially) tonight, I remembered why 80's Prince is totally had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone
