This is the real reason he is having a fit.

His last true hit song was in 1993! He's had a few charters BUT no true Top 10 smash.

He's tried desperately to get back on top. The whole wanna be D'angelo tracks, the lame Hip Hop concessions, the modern production concessions, you know it. He's washed up to anyone beyond his worshippers. "Black Sweat" was suppose to be the one...FLOP.

No' he hasn't. Shame about that.

I don't think he tried all that hard really to get back on top.

So nothing that charts other Billboard charts is considered successful. Even the top ten Album (CD) Chart !!!
Get your facts straight before you come with this nonsense again. P is doing okay for a 50-year-old black man.
Your not going to see any top ten hits for Bruce, Rolling Stones or any other oldie act but they have something a lot of younger acts do not have talent

In the 80's you got hit songs mixed with hit videos. Raspberry Berret and Kiss where great song/video combos.



Now Prince just doesn't get it right. You have songs like Fury, which are sleeper videos but catchy songs, or interesting looking videos like Te Amo, but boring ass songs.

And these days, what constitutes a hit anyway? Certainly not what it used to be. And singles don't have the same role in promoting an album which don't have the same role in promoting a tour anymore. You have to find other means, and Prince certainly has, and has the scars from the learning process to show for it.

What makes a hit is a song that is played "heavy in rotation" by radio.

When people listen to a song rotated enough on radio it becomes a hit and memeroable song to them.

For example, "Ice, Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice, "Only Wanna Be with You" by Hootie and the Blowfish", "Fly" by Sugar Ray, "Breakfast at Tiffany's" by Deep Blue Something, "Free Yo Mind" by En Vogue, "Stay (I Missed You)" by Lisa Loeb or "Criminal" by Fiona Apple (just to name a few) are hit songs because they were played on heavy rotation on radio during their individual time of release in the 90's.

Are these songs any better or worse than single such as "Space", "Letitgo", "Eye Hate U", "Dinner With Deloris", "The Holy River", "Somebody's Somebody", "Girl 6", "The One", "Come On", "The Greatest Romance Ever Sold", "Man Of War", "The Work", "Musicology", "Call My Name", Cinnamon Girl", "Te Amo Corazon", "Black Sweat", "Fury", "Beautiful Loved and Blessed", "The Song Of The Heart", "S.S.T", "Guitar", "The One U Wanna C", "Chelsea Rodgers" or "PFUnk" release from Prince in the mid 90's to present?

It's a matter of opinion but based on "fact", those Prince songs are incredible due to quality and arrangement. They are all high quality, well produced and arranged songs. But to like them is a matter of opinion. To me that list of Prince singles alone would make a killer greatest hits volume...just listen to the variety of music, sound and styles!! WOW!!

If these Prince "singles" were played on "HEAVY ROSTATION" when released, they would have been the "real hits" you say are lacking in his work of the 90's and 2000's. All it takes is heavy play...over and over.

So, PRINCE has been making hits, excellent quality hits and still different than what was released at the time all along.

Look at the list of Prince singles I mentioned above that were officially released again...those are some killer tracks and they definitely didn't sound like anything out at the time on top 40 pop and R&B when it was released

Prince is still cutting edge!

Planet Earth, 3121 and Musicology are MAGNIFICANT ALBUMS. There is so much musicianship, variety and emotion an each album that makes me, again, feel in AWE of PRINCE and his creativity and genius.

I look forward to the next album with great anticipation and excitement!

The video sucked complete ass. Prince just stands there doing nothing. I mean, absolutely nothing. He made one funny face that only fans would have liked, and the rest of the video felt like it was somekind of Vonage commercial.

to those thinking Prince hasn't/wasn't trying to produce hits...what about "The Greatest Romance Thats Ever Been Sold"...actually the entire Rave album was an attempt to reinvigorate his career and introduce him to younger fans...
to say that Prince doesn't wanna produce hits is naive at best...it would seem that if he didn't wanna make hits, he would have continued in the direction of the Rainbow Children and N.E.W.S...those can truly be considered cutting edge...and those kind of albums are what separated Prince from the rest of the pack...but the last three releases have been nearly as mediocre as the rest of the pop/r&b offerings from other artists...
