i think Emancipation is one of the worst title-tracks he's recorded,
right along with Grafitty Bridge and Planet Earth.

having said that, it contains some really cute vocal harmonies and a
few nice lines.

i just don't like the entire girly screaming "see hee hee you in the
purple rain"

Are you serious? I didn't know this, I can see that clearly, Oprah has climbed a very high hill, and still she feels as so many of us do...anxious for all the the discrimination in the world...to just end.

Imago

I had bootleg copies of slave and New world several months previous to the release of Emancipation, and I liked what I heard. But I thought honestly that these songs were going "finished" on the album. It was to my dismay that they were exactly the same. lol

Emancipation has grown on me. When I first heard the album I was seriously thinking because of all he hype about it being the "album Prince was born to make" that it would be like an improved, 3 hour long , version of the Gold Experience.

But to my surprise, in comparison, it felt more like a soft-funk, glossy collection of mood music in comparison.

I was like excited
then eek
then hmm
then rolleyes
then zzz

Now, I'm quite fond of Emancipation. Compared to his recent releases, it's practically composition by Beethoven. Sure, 3 hours of songs is very hard to digest, and I dislike 6 or 7 of the songs , a few of then greatly. But 6 or 7 songs out of 30 songs is not bad. I mean, with most musical acts I like 1 or 2 songs out of the entire album.

Emancipation has some terrific ballads, some great danceable tunes, and although the instrumentation and drumb track is a snorefest, the overall cohesive feel of the album is astounding considering its sheer length, not to mention the fact that he was able to even pull it off.

Which of Prince's contemporaries could come close?

I like the Emancipation CD and think it is VERY appropriate for what's going on with Prince today, biggrin
