Let's talk about something fun..which 5 albums will it be?

" The same 5 albums will be available for sale at stores, "

This was a quote from another topic.
The poster was saying when Prince is gone he will be remembered for his 80's output and name change... the same 5 CD's will be on sale...

so in your opinion what are those 5 CD?

my guess:
1999
Purple Rain
Sign of the Time
Musicology (reference for his "comeback"

I can only come up with 4....
Maybe Diamonds and Pearls (because of TMBGIW)

What are your guess??

most beautiful girl was on gold experience not diamonds and pearls, it will be these 5

1999
Purple Rain
Sign of the Times
Symbol
3121

but i would trade symbol for Gold experience. DAMN IT, if only they would re-issue the gold experience.

1999 -- produced biggest hits of his early work
Purple Rain -- obviously
Sign 'O' the Times -- his most critically acclaimed album
Diamonds and Pearls -- his only successful 90's album
Musicology -- his supposed comeback album

I should have known about TMBGIW, I love Gold

okay then I will pick 1999, PR, SOTT, GE, Musicology.

GE over D+P because TMBGIW has been remade so many times..

I swear I hear it's melody on a real elevator. eek sad but true.

I agree with the albums here, but as a second guess take away diamonds and pearls and put in 3121. Remember this was number 1 for a minute. It sold pretty well.

I would also like to ask

of the 5 albums most are listing... will this be a fair and accurate example of his best work?

If so why or why not.

what would be a better example that you know will not be in those 5.

I pick Emancipation... because it really showcases his singing abilities.

If my list turns out to be accurate, it will be a TERRIBLE representation of his work.

I WISH this was the real list that he'd be remembered for by some more casual fans:

1. Dirty Mind -- showcases his punk side + it's his true breakthrough album
2. 1999 -- shows his darker side + his ability to craft great pop + dance songs
3. Purple Rain -- shows his revolutionary genre-bending sound that changed music
4. Parade -- shows his multi-faceted elegance in full force
5. Sign 'O' the Times -- shows how masterful a lyricist he could be when he tried

Albums like Diamonds and Pearls and Musicology don't reflect his depth or artistic fearlessness. They're safe albums and nothing more.

the three most obvious ones are

1999
Purple Rain
Sign of the times

after that... who knows... but the best and the classiest are

Lovesexy
Parade
Batman
ATWIAD

ie most of his 80's output.

In 50 years time. no one will care about records he released in the late 90's till now because he dimply didnt have a recognisable "hit" and is not as relevant as he was in the 80's.
