Who here is not a fan of Dirty Mind?

I bet there's some of you who dislike this classic album.
With that said, leave this board now and disappear! =)

there is a certain part of me that believes that Dirty Mind is the best album he ever made, alone for the fact that it is more or less a demo, which adds a raw beauty to it, Nirvana i think also have this problem, Bleach is in certain ways far more superiour to Nevermind
If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

I love "Dirty Mind" in it's simplicity.
It captures the mood as he recorded it.
Not overproduced,but it's basic,raw & funky.
A timeles classic!

I agree. Dirty Mind was paramount in the sense that u have to look at the times in which it was made. P was REALLY trying to reach a broader audience with this album. And at the same time, define his OWN sound. Which he did.And define his own image. Which he did. (with a lil' help from his dear friend, Rick). But that said, I've always dug this album. Controversy , 1999 nor Purple Rain would have not existed if it wasn't for this album. The playing and the mix of the song "Uptown" is fantastic. That song SHOULD have been a bigger hit than it was. Radio just didn't know how to fuck with it. Although it was a straight bite from the Stones "Miss You", it was still too rockish sounding for black radio and white dj's weren't going to fuck with ANYTHING from that album. Not after seeing the album cover, that's for sure.

I love it...Prince's voice from 1980, takes us all back to 27 years ago.
Prince was on my mind everyday that year.

Nirvana is such a shitty & overrated band.

Unlike certain other albums, I didn't love it immediately when it came out. But over time, Dirty Mind's grown on me and I'd definitely put it in my Top 5! I love how raw and unprofessional it sounds. (by Prince standards, that is) Every once in a while there's a little twang or background noise or fuzziness that adds a fresh, immediate energy to it, and, dare I say it, something like a punk sensibility.

Y'all play it too safe out there in California. Y'all were the first ones to ban smoking in all public places, including clubs. lol Anyway, down here black radio played the hell out of "Uptown", as well as "Head", "Dirty Mind", and "Partyup".
