Anyone been to Glam Slam? Being a brit I wouldn't have a clue what it was like and wondered if anyone
could tell me. I imagine it to be a non alcohol bar but smoking allowed, plush purple decor and nothing but prince choones alllll night long. Sounds like my kind of club. Apart from maybe the non alcohol part! I know I hold you too tight, but I just can't seem to get close enough

All the clubs were closed or taken over by someone else. "Waiting to be banned"

I went to the Minneapolis GS. It was pretty blah downstairs, no Prince music to be heard. The gift shop was OK. I thikn I bought a t-shirt.
The private room was upstairs. The guard said memberships were $1,000. I told him I was from out of town but I'd pay $100 to get up there for the evening. He politely declined my offer. Probably for the best.

I was at the Glam Slam in Minneapolis back in 1992. It's funny, because my friends and I were upstairs, and every time the door opened, I would look to see if it was Prince walking in. Then my friends and I learned later that Prince was not even in Minneapolis the week that I was there. He was in California working with Tevin Campbell on his new album. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Moderator | Used to go to the Glam Slam Miami every chance I got years ago. Very plush for that strip at the time. The drink menu had drinks named after prince songs. I remember seeing a photo of it online somewhere ... maybe it was in the gallery here, I'm not sure.
I have some non digital photos I took back in the mid 90's somewhere. I took a photo of Prince on stage one of nights he graced the joint and his face makeup bounced back all sorts of white from the flash that made him look dead. The dancers in the fishnet stockings on pedestals were hot though. The 3 or 4 times I saw a Prince show there was always amazing. He literally funked it up till dawn because by the time I got to my car and back on the freeway, the sun was coming up. The energy of those shows carried on for days later. Especially that Birthday gig he did. Mayte did her Children of the Sun routine as well. Years later I found a very nice packaged CD set of that weekend at a record store on the same strip. My favorite item in the collection for sure. All Rights Reserved. |

I went the Minneapolis club a few times in '92/'93. It was cool but the drinks were really expensive and they didn't play any Prince music when I was there. But it was fun to ask the staff questions about Prince.
