Preserving the 'official' legacy

So much of Prince's output in the 'digital era' has been only available fleetingly; e.g. PFUnk, Love acoustic, O2 video clips all released very recently.

The problem is if you've missed it, it's gone. Plus, even if you are there at the right time there's often no obvious way to save the music or video.

Way back in olden times you could discover an artist and then go and explore and delve into their back catalogue. Even if a record had been deleted, it was usually easy enough to get a 2nd hand copy.

It seems a real shame that there is genuinely so much quality output coming from Prince at the moment that only a few will see or hear, and most will forget about because they weren't able to get a copy.

I guess the internet allows anyone a vastly more controlled distribution method than physical product, and Prince's personality has led to a high level of control being exercised. There's no limits to the amount of material that potentially could be made available on a permanent basis.

I just hope that that indeed happens one day or we'll always be reliant on 3rd party accounts of Prince's work. A real shame. 'Nuff said.
