So, am I a terrible fan?

Prince's bootlegs are legendary -- his unreleased tracks surpass all of his released material. Most people who are still Prince fans probably do have a bootleg collection. Prince's fans are older and more sophisticated than the average stars fans... thus we know what's good and what's not, and where to find all the stuff we're looking for. Personally, I search out all of his unreleased music because I want to listen to it. I post critical reviews of all of his work. Is it really that bad to talk about his unreleased work? Who does it really hurt? Nobody. Am I really that bad because i'm listening to all 21 Nights in London?

Prince should spend more time worrying about things that actually do matter. I can't believe how childlike he really is... "waaaaah."

If it wasn´t for bootlegs, I probably never would have realized what a great artist he is, and I never would have bought all the officially released stuff, and I wouldn´t appreciate his music so much, and I wouldn´t have gone to so many concerts.
People who like bootlegs usually buy all his released stuff too.

If someone bootlegged Prince's music and sold it for profit, I don't really see it as a bad thing. Sometimes you just gotta put food on the table, in any way possible. Not everyone has a talent, or Prince's talent, or the right "luck" to make themselves successful. Therefore, some people turn to other means to make a living. Prince says in his song, "you say my name to get 15 minutes of fame, nobody is even sure what you do." And I say... so what? Who is Prince to judge what others do? Look around -- people are struggling in life. Prince is one of the lucky few who don't have to struggle financially. And yet he still finds a reason to complain. Give me a break. This is how I know Prince isn't a man of the people... that he's just out for himself. That's selfish. I wouldn't be upset at the bootleggers for selling any concerts or unreleased tracks -- because in the end it's a victimless crime. Prince is still rich, and the bootlegger can pay his/her bills and put food on the table. I'd rather have someone sell bootlegs than sell crack to a person. Sometimes you just gotta letitgo, chill out in Paisley Park with your Cap'n Crunch, Soy milk, and Watchtower.

The deadheads understood that the bootlegaz would purchase official stuff and some of the money would trickle up. With the internet, I don't believe any true fan should download official released material.

What Prince is doing will counter everything. IMO, Prince boots have gone down in price simply because they can easily be traded online.

If he does take out the sites where fans trade what will he accomplish? #1 will always be a demand for bootlegz. #2 the price will go up because they will be harder to find. It's still kind of difficult to take out the online trading communities.

Maybe but when you get with live shit from NPG is edit edit edit edit edit edit edit edit edit edit edit edit edit edit edit edit edit edit edit edit edit.
Many times Prince has talked about doing this and that and it ends up being nothing. Furthermore, as much as Prince tries to stop bootlegaz.. look it ain't gonna happen.

Rumor has it, some in the purple underground are offering upto $1000 per unreleased song not in circulation from the vault. It was only time before Prince came after the legit sites. Purple heads are trying to bring the vault to them. lol

I can tell u this, I may own two bootlegs, and purchased them from a local record exchange, completely unaware that they were illegitimate...

They are "Yellow" and "The Royal Mix" and I have not shared them with anyone.

And I have never burned one cd...and I have only downloaded the United States of Division...And I'll never download another song in my life...I hate it.

how do people make these bootlegs - where do they come from i.e. the recording(yes pretty ignorant on this score)
"C'mon y'all - let me hear you sing, c'mon y'all, shake, c'mon y'all, jump" - Yes Prince -
"London do you feel for me what I feel for you"- yes Prince -
"Can I play my guitar now?" - yes please

Now that you know you have two bootlegs. Will you send them back to Prince as he requested?

you know, alot of artists have embraced their fans appetite for bootlegs...Bruce Springsteens channel on Sirius satellite radio encourages fans to send in live bootlegs....the best ones get played on the air...novel idea...

I tend to think that bootlegs have played a big part in Princes career longevity...and he'd be hard pressed to convince me that bootlegs have made a major dent in his bottom line...I think its a testament to his talent that the boots are widely sought after...some would see it as a compliment...apparently, he doesn't..
