Prince has lost the funk

You're only as great, as the last thing that you did.

Y'all know that "PFUnk" song doesn't stand up to any of his greatest songs.

That song sucks.

I'd rather listen to "If I Was Your Girlfriend", any day, over that shit.

Just compare the two.

If I Was Your Girlfriend: Out of nowhere, the organ. The funky keyboard drum machine sound. The keyboard. The bass guitar. The bass guitar. The bass guitar. That killer keyboard melody down the scales.

PFUnk: Supercheese fest.

Prince has really lost the funk. He doesn't even know how to do it, anymore.
If it's not PFUnk, then Prince does his best Joss Stone rip-off, with "Chelsea Rogers".

I've been listening to dude for years, and he's lost it. I mean, damn.

For recent funk, I have to go back to the "Come" album, for "Letitgo".

That bullshit "3121" doesn't count.

I like the new song. How long does a person have to live for people to stop comparing them to what went on 10 or 20 years ago? Damn the year is 2007, wake up! sad

Well, I agree with you that Prince ain't what he was as recently as The Rainbow Children (superior jazz-funk) and Xpectation (more of the same, but quite beautiful music too). I think everything he's done since xpectation has been weak, give or take the odd highlight. Of the three mainstream albums, Musicology is the best of a seriously piss poor trio.

PFunk's really not at all bad though. It's no classic, but it's better than the crap on the aforementioned albums. Even if it does diss the fansites.

Hey look, how original. Someone on these boards comparing a new Prince song to the stuff he did in the 80's. AGAIN. Don't any of you have an original thought, because this one was played out a LONG time ago. No shit it doesn't compare to what he did at his creative peak. That's why it's called a peak, genius. I don't understand this obsession some of his fans have with comparing everything to the 80's. That decade is long gone. Get over it. Judge a song on its own merits here in 2007. Stop living in the past. Maybe Prince is right about some of you and your obsessive nature.

a coincidence that his 80s stuff are far better? i dont care about 80s 90s 00s if people point out the 80s its cuz its a way of calling "his best period" and that corresponds to the 80s, thats it.

a song is good or bad no matter when was recorded.
yeah wer in 2007 and some people listen to 80s songs. exaclty.

we dont have a problem. its not living in the past. cuz music that is good is good forever.
