Aren't they ridiculously expensive?

I don't think very many stars own them? Perhaps Travolta and a few ohers, but I thought they were still billionaire toys--not millionaire toys.

From what I understand, they really are billionaire toys and trying to keep one is a quick way to lose a lot of money (which Elton John discovered, among others). That's what I've heard, anyway, and rich people are much wiser to do a "time share" on them.

I don't the jets are that expensive, its the maintenance and hiring of pilots that's expensive.

I'm sure P has a private contractor/company that he uses whenever he wants to go somewhere.

Because he'd have to hire...and pay...a pilot.

Private jets are the way to go, especially if you travel a lot. Depending on what you buy, they aren't that expensive.

You will never be able to justify the jet on a dollar basis, but when you add in the value of your time, they more than pay for themselves.

Plus, you don't have to hassle with checking in. You go right to your plane. You have covered parking. The FBO will provide you anything you want.

Unless you have a Cessna Citation I (a "near jet", LOL) you need 2 pilots (FAA requirement). We always had one on full-time and contracted out the second pilot when we travelled.

prolly the same reason he doesn't have a crazy extravagant car collection....just not cost effective or a wise investment. However if it was some bizzare billion dollar instrument he would use only once....who knows....

I knew someone who had one (she was probably worth several hundred million) and even she didn't own the plane. She shared it.

I think it's too expensive to keep planes & pilots all for yourself. But Prince probably rents them from time to time.

This is one of the many things that make him special ...he´s still at elast a little bit down to earth and flies with regular airlines most of the time, unlike most other fools with celebrity status who spend their money foolishly on things they can´t afford and then end up like a caricature of themselves because they just HAD to have that private jet, helicopter, big mansion, big cars etc. like Hammer and Vanilla Ice and hundreds of other idiots.

Prince should not let the masses dictate him how to travel or what to spend his money on .

Remember..." People without...spend money on things they can´t afford." lol

We haven't heard of P flying commercial airlines in a while. I think he has flown privately since the 90s.

Jimmy Page was talking about how Led Zeppelin was not the only band to have a private jet, but they were the only band that had one that you didn't have to bend over to get into (though I doubt Prince has that trouble either).

Probably because it is a ridiculously unnecessary ostentacious waste of money. like another poster said, you can always charter one if it is necessary.

I don't know what Prince owns, however some friends of min than own a helicopter, say that it is extremely expensive to park. Using aircraft on a regular basis, is cheaper than, parking it...If you don't own the parking court that is...

Purchase price.
Fuel.
Insurance.
Maintenance.
Permits.
Inspection fees.
Salaries for the Crew.
Depreciation.

There a tons of reasons why an individual wouldn't buy their own private jet.

A business, on the other hand, may be able to use it; but it's so much more cost-effective, unless you're flying every day, to use commercial or private charters.

Wow not one person mentions environmental reasons of private flights being even worse for CO2 production per person than regular flights? tsk tsk
